Well, she's ready for shiny paint

but that's not going to happen til December when I have a little bit more funds. Two of my friends have been busting butt on this car and got it to this semi final stage. I need a some opinions on the headers. ON or Off with some nice hood sides? Remember this is going to be shiny paint so I'm slightly leaning towards off just because they may detract from the body lines... Your opinions are appreciated.

Speedy I know alot of work went into those headers, it would be shame not use them. The car is looking killer man.

 

Very cool, I love that car. If ya ask me, Leave'em on, but I'm sure it'll look bitchin either way. Can't wait to see it with some chine on it.

Greezy thanks man, A TON OF work went into them and the guys at Crushproof did a great job, I'm definately torn on leaving them on or off. I spoke with a couple bigtime custom guys here on the hamb and its been a 50/50 opinion.

 

Send the car over to me.....I'll get it REAL shiny before you get it back. The headers STAY!

I'd cut up some hood sides and make em fit around the headers, at least to cover up the side of the firewall and right in front of the headers. Then It'll look classy, yet badass......

 

I'd have to say take some side hood pieces and cut em to fit WITH the headers to hide the firewall. It will have form AND function...kinda like my avatar

 

I would make a smooth "hood side" panel that just covers the firewall. I like the open sides & the way the grille shell curves (& of course the headers).

The problem with the gene pool is that there is no lifeguard.

 

It looks good now, and the headers are definitely cool...but it looks like (to me) the car wants to be a low,sleek, smooth sled. I say "no headers". Sorry Arlo....nothin against the craftsmanship!

 

The car screams for smooth hood sides. I need the headers for my '40 coupe.
I missed seeing the car at the drags this year....just wasn't the same. What kinda shiny paint is planned for the car?

 

I think you should lose the headers. Just like you say; they detract from the flow of the body lines. But I understand your dilemma, they are really cool and a nice piece of craftmanship. Why not save 'em for another, future project?

 

I am undecided, while the headers are really part of your car and are a point of interest, I cant help but wonder what the car would look like with clean hood sides.

 

Why not have your cake and eat it too,,,,

Make the side panels and paint them,,,heck make two sets of side panels ,,,one smooth and one with the cut out for the headers,,,,

change em out from time to time and have a different look in a few years.HRP

 

first off the car is bitchin' as is. second i agree with johnnyb347 and maybe a combo of both is the solution your looking for.

 

Do you want attitude and something alittle different like what I see there.

Or do you want just another nicely done smoothed out CustomRod.

I think the headers look great. I also think a half of a hood to cover the cowl area would be a nice look.

Please dont loose the headers. Make them work with the side covers.

 

I think they take away from how nice the car is, the rest of the car is very sleek and smooth and the headers just stick out, they are nice but maybe on a different style car.

ok im collecting my senses.. although those headers kinda define that car, im afraid they have to go.. its just gonna be way to slick of a sled to have a jagged edge sticking out like that.. maybe in a couple years pull of the hood sides and bolt em back on. it will be like a new car all over again.. ya know what im tired of you and cleatus makin me hate my own car!!!! bastids!

 

They'd look good either way in my opinion, but when I see that car it makes me think "westergard", so I'd personally take them off and find something else just as cool to put them on... maybe a roadster or a modified, sometime down the road. But a set of side panels cut to fit them would look pretty bitchin', too.

 

They did nice work, but I would take them off and close the "hole"

 

This is a great idea.!!!!!!!!! Have them exit through the hood sides. Killer car BTW

 

Speedy - those headers are one of the things that make your car unique.... Leave them!!! What color are you going with...whatever it is I hope to see some serious pinstripes going on! You have until April to finish your paint ( Roundup!)

Dem tings has gots to go... They detract from the lines of the car. Everything else is very smooth and flowing with great lines and then here come these "wings" sticking out sideways.

They are beautiful headers and would look righteous on another project with a tougher attitude. They are a muscular protuberance on an elegant form and are incongruous.

Keep the headers at home and send me the car. Problem solved!!!!!

 

I like both ways.Maybe this pic helps to ease your decision.It's just a quickie and NOT very detailed...but I think you get the picture.
