    I was reliving that moment with the terrifying Toranado and I remembered two other things about that night. When the car went over the rail it ripped a hole in the oil pan. So there was smoke everywhere when it finally came to rest against the guard rail. Since it was going to be a bitch to get the car out from behind the guard rail they decided to leave it there for the rest of the race. So we got to look over the the top of the car to watch the rest of the action. So the smell of hot burning oil and the racing action were just the right mix for a special evening. I guess they figured out how to get the car out of there after the races or maybe even the next day.

    Don't know about a restoration, but did see this on the dowtown streets of Minneapolis, MN one Sunday morning. Family was on the was to church in the am and heard something loud, looked, and THIS CAR was on the street near the downtown Oldsmobile dealership! Did then go out to MN Dragways later that day and see it run. Smoke smoke smoke...

    Thought I had post this in this forum a while back but guess I didn't....

    Also posted in it's own thread, Looking for history on this car.


    I'm trying to help a friend find information on a car he purchased about five years ago.

    He bought a 1940 Chevy that was campaigned as a gasser in the Austin, TX area. It supposedly went by the name of Mighty Mouse. When he bought it (around 2007), it was located in the Houston, TX area.

    That's all the information we have. We are looking for pics of it in action as well as ANY historical information we can gather.

    He is rebuilding it as a gasser and would very much like as much background information as he can get.

    Hands off the steering wheel so you don't break your thumbs when the tire hits the rail. Or in this case, the tire might have already hit from the looks of the front fender.

    I checked with my buddy and he said there were things that lead him to believe it was originally built as a gasser in the late '50s or early '60s. For instance, he said the tranny was set up as a standard floor shift and there was no tranny cross member - it was suspended! Also, the engine was set up for a small block but it had the early style motor mounts. He also said, on the right rear qtr panel was a very faded, somewhat patina'd image of what looked like Mighty Mouse. The body is all steel and stock. It was bought through a broker in Houston but came out of the Austin area.

    He (the owner) is having trouble getting on his HAMB account so as I get more info from him, I'll post it.

    C'mon you TX HAMBers (or anyone else), little help!

    .......... and a later style Enderle hat with an ancient chain drive. When did the first Enderle blower injectors come along? Tom S. in Tn.

    I would guess the Enderle "Showerhead" came out around 63, as a companion to their "Barn Door" unit. Hamilton and Boehler replaced their old 96"wb car with this 120 incher for the 1965 season, note the new Weiand intake manifold and 2" belt drive.

    You are right about 63 being the debut year. Ivo was the first to use one and Tony Nancy followed thereafter. Both used the "showerhead" unit as you referred to it in replacing the barndoor style. Barndoor Enderle still retained favor for a lot of racers until the early 70's. Was the motor in this little rail a punched out 283?

    Looking for my fathers old dragster. Here's a picture of her. Was sold out of buffalo new york 13 years ago. Anyone knows any info on where she may be let me know thanks. Last heard it still had the same paint job. Thanks guys!
