Features How many of you guys have a 1940-1941 Non-truck Mopar ?

I love your 40 DeSoto, i think they have the best tail light look of any car, so much so that i will be using a set on my 40 Dodge coupe also.

Yes i have that

The manifold is home made aluminium and with 2 trotrle bodies from volvo 740 (B230F)
And the ECU is a Autronic SMC with CDR500 CDI ignition box
The ignition is made with 2 ford wast spark dubble colis

That is pretty creative using all those different parts to make it work, do you have a picture of the engine complete and on a stand ? Or did you do the injection while the engine was fitted in your DeSoto.

It was put in the Desoto with the engine in the car
'It more or less imposible to take out the engine complet (the hood holle is smaller than the engine and take of the front is no oppertunty to do)

Thank You.. I picked it up a bout 6 months ago and just getting started with getting her running. Looks like just needs a complete brake overhaul. I want to keep her completely stock as possible and put in on the market. I want a custom project and Im hesitant to molest a car this complete and rust free...

 

40 Plymouth coupe here

 

Only good pic I have of my '40 Chrysler. I have some proper teardrop skirts, a Fulton visor, cat-eye fog lights and a set of artillery wheels to go on it, the car is due for a makeover.

 

I understand, but i have a feeling you will put this back together and fall in love with it and see its potential to do something real simple with it and start driving the wheels off of it

I have a rough 41 desoto 3 window coupe, not sure what to do with it yet as I dont like the huge rear on it. May have to cut out a couple feet from the rear to get the proportions right.

 

Any chance you can share a picture of your Mopar please ? There are ways to make things look right with out cutting it up.

 

Here is the 41, oversize rear and all. I am sure it was great for the salesman in the day since you could stack a huge amount of stuff in the trunk. It actually looks ok in this shot but the side view is just way out of proportion. 5 window version looks much better IMO, but if I shorten the rear a bunch I think it would look cool.

 

I love the three window with the big butt. I have had a 1941 Dodge and a 1948 Dodge and they were both all original. I always thought that they looked like a three-man submarine when painted gray or primered. A good friend of mine had a 1947 DeSoto three window, too. I have been looking for another one.

 

I hope you find what your looking for, do you care what one you end up with ? have you got a preference, like Dodge, DeSoto, Chrysler, Plymouth perhaps ?

If you are any good with photoshop, have a play as i think the solution is as simple as just moving the rear axle and the rear fender opening backwards slightly to balance the rear end out, they do look a littl rear heavy because the rear fender is so short at the leading edge. Tell me what you think ?

 

Original plans were to remove some excess length between the back window and leading trunk edge, moving the whole rear of the car forward at least a foot. With at least 4 cars ahead of this one it may be sold before I get to it, right now it will sit in the staging area.

 

It is great you have plans for it, i hope you do reach it in time to perform some love on the old girl. Truth be known, if Mopar had have released that 3 window body style DeSoto you have but with a split rear window not just in 1941 & 1942, and actually made it available sooner with the 1940 DeSoto front sheet metal, which will bolt straight on from another car, that would have been my ultimate favourite car of all time i reckon, they just have the nicest fronts on the 1940 DeSoto IMO. The whole car when lowered looks a lot like an aircraft carrier with its equally large looking front and rear areas.

I have two business coupes, a '39 Plymouth (my avatar) and a '46. Both have hopped-up Dodge flat six engines. I always wanted a '40 or '41, maybe one day I will.

 

You have a couple of cool coupes buddy, i hope you get either a 40 or 41. What is the attraction ? just cause they look cool perhaps
