Long story short- I trade my new neighbor a heat pump for his 56 Town sedan with a 292. Car is straight and mostly there. Been sitting for a few years. Gotta pull the plugs and oil the cylinders a little, flush the gas tank, etc... Gonna be a long resto because we are also building a house. My plan is Low and Loud. Not sure about a disc brake conversion or motor swap just yet. Anyone have any info about the front of the hood? I've never seen trim there, but it looks like there was.
You have a 1955 hood on a 56 car. The 56 hood bird is recessed into the hood. IF you are going to nose it, that hood you have is better because the 56 hood has a huge hole in it. PS Be careful of that poison oak!
Try to find a 70s Ford Granada or Monarch as a parts car, cuz you can use spindles to lower the front and get disc brakes at the same time. You can also use the master cyl., proportioning valve, rear end, and if it has a 302, the engine/trans plus a mul***ude of other stuff. You should look under community tab (near top of page) and go visit the 1952-56 Ford group. Lotsa good info there.
Agreed on the hood, that is most definitely a '55 hood. You're in about the same place I am working on a '55 Town Sedan that my parents bought new. I used spindles and disc brakes from a '76 Mercury Montego, same thing as late '60s and early '70s big Ford, bolt right up.
Thanks 38Ford. I looked on Craigslist here for a Granada donor-3800$!! Do you have a build thread? Love to see more pictures. Doing some more research - I guess I will be ordering some Aerostar coils for the front end. My buddy has a 1970 Mustang disn brake setup he could sell me, would that work?
Yep, your missing a strip-o- chrome there, any 55-56 Fairlane found sittin' is missing that piece. Our current ride is a 55 town sedan.....same scenario. The only piece-o-chrome loose was that piece.... Good trade by the way, that car will look helluva lot better with a good raking..............
Dave - I think I have the piece in the trunk. If my hood was a true 56, I shouldn't even have it, right? Funny timing, I was just jacking the girl up and getting ready to concentrate on her good and proper. BTW - My neighbor also decided I needed a Siamese cat. At least he's much more agreeable than the 56! :0
So whenever someone says "Miracle lube" and my "super mix" broke the engine free, send them to me. I'm the one motherf*&^r who tried everything and it didn't work. Damn block has been sitting in a diesel, acetone, ATF, MMO batch for months. Tried pulling the rocker arms and tapping on the valves. They were all free. F it. Pulling the heads and getting a big hammer. If I ruin it, no big loss, but this just pisses me off. And don't say I haven't been patient. Bottom line, if a motor is going to break free, it'll break free regardless of what you put in there. If it's rusted tight, it ain't gonna budge. Don't tell me otherwise. Rant over.
