That's the plan for tomorrow evening. I'm not going to cut anything off just yet, I am going to call speedway in the morning and see what they say. On mine, i may have to drill the welds on the mounts for the vacuum motor just to mount the new one properly if I go that route. I'll let you guys know what I find out in the morning and post pics as I make progress.

Picked up this little guy last sunday. It's a rebuilt '74 302 with a torquer RV cam in it. Should be better than the tired 85 302 I currently have. Hopefully I can get it installed by tomorrow night. Who knows what little hiccups I'll run into. I know I have to switch water pumps and I'm going to put an edelbrock performer intake with a 650 double pumper that was supposed to go on my Y-block but I need it for the ol' daily.

Keep smiling!! Looks like progress has been made!! That suspension swap is "interesting" to say the least. The upper strut mount, just a suggestion, but when you get the new motor bolted in, might want to check and see how much flex that thing has. From what I see it probably will. Some gussets and other strengthening might be necessary! Happy New Year!

Agreed Mike, it definitely needs some gusseting and serious cleaning up with a grinder. I plan on doing that, and getting the inner fenders mounted and the whole engine area painted. I actually got the old motor torn down tonight and tomorrow I'm taking the intake to work to give it a good cleaning in the solvent tank. I'm going to have a busy weekend! :D

Got the new motor in today. Would have been yesterday but I got the wrong gaskets for the intake and it was leaking when I filled the fluids. Had to let it dry overnight. It's still a little messy, so I'll clean up the wiring this week. Felt amazing to do some burnouts today!! Here's a few pics.

Timing is set, found out the old motor was not getting enough vacuum to obtain advance on the timing which explains why it was running rather warm, carb is dialed, new clutch feels great. Back to working on the roof to paint it. Then I'll finally put the windows, wipers and heater in it. Stay tuned for pics.

  15. Motor looks good!

Do a couple burnouts for me.....my truck is asleep in the garage till the spring thaw. Really envy you being able to daily drive yours.

With the little tires and light rain lately, I've done 10 for you! I am really happy I replaced the motor before moving ahead with anything else, as it is my daily and my pops has been blowing steam out his ears for all the oil drips up and down the driveway.

Decided to start attacking the bodywork everyday on my truck. I sanded all the low spots down to bare steel with 80 grit to do a skim coat of bondo. There was only a few small waves but I know I would kick myself later on if I didn't do it right the first time. I will sand it tomorrow on my lunch break once it has a chance to sit in the sun for a few hours.

Here is a shot of it after it was smooth, before the primer. I kept getting carried away and putting low spots in it. A little skim coat, sand, little skim coat, sand, sand, sand. My arms felt like noodles.

My dads friend came by to spray some paint! It was 75 degrees here today. I know, he should have a mask on. At least it is the "green" EPA legal stuff... Let the photos begin...

And the top is fully painted! I'm waiting a few days for it to cure completely before I color-sand and buff it. I started a new job yesterday so I've been pretty busy. Enjoy more pics!

It's more of a milk-white, than a pure-white. It will look killer once the lower part of the body is painted a dark navy blue.
