Hot Rods 1932 5 Window Barn find....WOW!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Lucky Mike, Dec 30, 2012.

  1. Fill the roof, install a Chevy 350, turbo 350 and paint it red, with add some American Torque thrust wheels with radial t/a's! Just kidding:rolleyes::D, make it stop with some juice brakes, make it reliable with a good engine tune-up, add a set of 16" wheels, with a nice rubber rake, then drive it for a while while you figure out what you want. That way you learn the "character" of the old car first.;) Oh, and use it, that is what they were built to be. Great find, enjoy.

Do you really think this car will set outside to worry about the roof possibly leaking?

Big duce, it definitely will not be in the weather, BUT if I do Hot Rod it, a soft, original roof wont do well at speed.

I have seen the 5 window and it really is a great car. This is probably one of the nicest 32 5 window i have seen, I am sure there will be plenty of planning before anything is done to the car.
Putting an insert in the car and having it covered it a minor upgrade that does not take away the original look of the car, one thing to consider is that when these cars were new some 80 years ago the average highway speed was not 65 or 70 mph. with out an insert you are have new fabric that is nailed into 80 year old wood that is subject to a lot of stress from the wind when the car is driven. And with the steel insert the original wood is still used but its function is to hod up the head liner and not support the roof of the car. just my two cents.

Lucky Mike, glad you joined the HAMB, and WELCOME! You sure know how to make an entrance, don'tcha??? :D

We ALL dream of finding a car like this, especially nowadays. Last time I did was 1974 -- long time ago! And, MAN, have the prices gone up for something as sweet as this. Saw a comparable Model A (I mean conditionwise) in the early '70s for sale at a car show show for a grand (!). Straight original Duece frames could still be had in the hundred-dollar range. But that's nearly 40 years ago.

Sure, there are lots of guys here who'd love to have your "problem." I love the mental picture of the 325 Hemi:cool: in there & just the side panels out. BUT, I can see the POV of the guys saying it's a rare original, one of only 20,000 built. That's gotta be one of the toughest decisions to make, when you'd really like to do it either way! Whoa.

Glad I don't have to make the decision, and CONGRATS to you on the find! With your obvious level-headedness, I believe you'll do what's prudent for YOU.;) But, ENJOY your Model B, bro.

Please! No matter WHAT you decide -- be it conservative or radical trad -- please do a build thread, would ya?

Thank you Jimi'shemi291! I will indeed. I will keep eveyone in the loop. I am going to sit on the model B for a little while. I am currently building another great find.

I found an original 1956 Ford F100 big window (real big window). It was ordered by the Colorado Forest Service in 1955 and has been in Colorado since. Very good body, dash never cut, great shape. I am going radical on this one, not an indication of what I will do with the Model B, trust me. I am putting a 347 stroker in it with a C4 suspension. We already boxed the frame. I found a guy who was chopping a 1996 vette and he sold me the WHOLE suspension for $2K. Anyway, here are some pics. Once this is done, I will start work on the Model B.

Now THAT sounds like an exciting project, man. Obviously, you know your way around this stuff. And, yeah, there's no reason to RUSH on the Model B, eh? It's gonna be right THERE when you get around to it. In the mean time, you can stroll out to the garage every morning with your coffee and just DREAM!

No pix came through on my end, though.

Well Gents, I am very much leaning toward keeping her as is. I am struck with the fact that keeping it as a barn find has tremendous merit. As she sits, she will draw a lot of attention and likely be something that most folks have never seen. I think it will give Hot Rodders great context as to what these cars where and allow the viewer to imagine what it could be, just like was doen in the days of old. If I finish it, it will be whatever it is, it would be very nice, but the opportunity to dream as to what she could be, will be gone, taken by the vision of what she became. You see, I have a 32 Roadster. She is hot and a driver. Her name is Sassy and as I see these two cars sit together, I see a very serious, almost stoic 5 window, with a very Sassy roadster. I think I will call the 5 window, Siri, together they will be Siri and Sassy. These are my thoughts for now. Below is a picture of my 32 Roadster with my buddy's 30 Knucklehead motorcycle. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

If you redo the coupe it will become just another 5 window, I like your thoughts on keeping it as it were when you found it! Of course many others will have their own ideas about what could be done with the coupe but, do what you feel will best serve the future of a wonderful piece of the past..........

Very nice!! If I had to do it over again I would have gotten mine running they way it was when I first got it. Instead it took me 6 years before I could actually enjoy driving it. I would slowly make changes till I got it where I wanted. Hard to go back once you start. Enjoy!
