Knowing there is model A a couple of blocks down the street. Locked up in a single car garage. It has been there for as long as I have lived here and that's 25 years. Owner/family won't sell it. The garage is starting to fall apart and there's nothing I can do about it
welcome to the club. i know of two A coupes sitting under an oak tree down the street. My dad has been asking about the cars for the last 30 years and I started asking about 5 years ago. still nothing
Shit, I can give you a list that would make you sick! 34 fords, 32 fords, a barris merc convertible, the list goes on and on.....Jim
ask to help them get it going or fix the roof...they may "remember" your help when they go to get rid of it.
I wish I could save them all too, I know where there is sooooooo many 23-40 fords and teens through 30's dodges, not for sell or rotting or both. not everyone cares like us
I spoke with daughter of the owner about selling the car and her response was and still is the car belonged to her grandfather and she wants to keep it in the family. Such a waste. I haven't given up yet!
Anyone that has been fooling around with cars for a long time can tell you a lot of stories about cars stuck in a barn or locked away out of sight,,I know of a bunch of desirable cars,,but they ain't for sale. Then all of a sudden you happen to drive by and see the doors wide open and somebody ask at the right time and bought the car,,I've seen it happen a lot over the years. Be pro active and stay in touch with the owners, offer to help them with chores if they are elderly, you said the roof needed repairs,,,it can pay off in the long run. HRP
I know where there's a few of those "I'll fix it someday" specials and it drives my nutty. Although it's not a very long drive
Is she single? Hook up with the daughter .Ask her to marry you then BLAM you are part of the family..It's a Win Win. You get a woman an the car and live happily ever after....
stay after it - as a paper boy I was after the 1964 Honda 305 around 1969 and as I got to the age of 16 I started asking about the 55 Stude - finally at his estate sale I some money and was able to out bid everyone and get them both in 2008....
Just like that BIG Bass in a pond/lake. You know its there, keep patient and someday you may land it.
I know your grandad would have liked to see it on the road...how about when I get it restored, I come by and take your family for a ride? Give that a shot... -Abone.
How much is the car worth to you? Go to the bank and get that amount in hundreds, show up at the house and start peeling them off. A lot of stuff gets pried loose this way. I have had a couple vehicles given/practically given to me just because the owner knew I would fix them up right.
the 305 sat next to the 55 by the porch where he wanted the paper thrown really was a nice guy........finally got both running....
I know where there is a 1961 Dodge just sitting in the garage, it has only been driven about 300 miles in the last 10 years. it just sits there year after year. doesn't bother me a bit. it belongs to me.
You need to understand that having that car makes them happy, there is a story that relates to the car, and having it is what matters to them. Bob
mentioning a price (that isn't insulting) especially these days may get it discussed at the dinner table.
Then the next thing you know . . . someone gets it, chops the top 8 inches, & channels it 9 inches over an S-10 chassis So . . . which is worse ? ?
