Rude, I'll bet Kris Kristofferson was happy as a clam when he heard Janis' post-Big Brother version of "Me and Bobby Mcgee"! IMO, that was every bit as good as "Piece o' My Heart."

 

I heard an interview with Kris Kristofferson a while back and he said that very thing. He plainly stated that Janis sang "Me and Bobby McGee" much better than he had. Also that he was happy she thought enough of the song to record it.

 

Kris is very unappreciated as a song writer, kind of like JJ Cale.

 

This was issued by the Universal Credit Company at the Ford Exposition of the Century of Progress exposition in Chicago in 1934 [the second year of that fair]. Visitors were invited to “purchase your Ford car on UCC Plans.” The text stated that “3 out of every 5 purchases of all makes of cars are made on a convenient budget or time payment basis.” Thanks to this “buying out of income,” “factories can build three times as many cars as would be possible if all sales were restricted to cash transactions.” A caption called this “A Contribution to the Social Progress of the Nation.” Plans would be tailored to customers’ kinds of income. Nearly 2,000,000 customers of Ford had used UCC.

Tom Mix (1880-1940) was America’s favorite movie cowboy of the 1920s, straddling the era between the hardcore William S. Hart and the more gentlemanly Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, and Hopalong Cassidy. Mix supposedly made more than 300 films, all but 9 of which were silents. Most are lost. Mix and his publicists heavily garnished his life, claiming among other things that he had been a Rough Rider during the Spanish-American War. He claimed to have been shot 12 times and been “injured 47 times in movie stunting.” Less was said about his 5 marriages.

This ad for the Militor motorcycle is the inside front cover of the Official Catalog and Program of the Eastern States Exposition and Dairy Show, September 15-20, 1919. The Militor was made from 1917 to 1924. One source says it was made in New Jersey, but this ad suggests otherwise. The Militor is best remembered from a mention in the report filed by Major Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1919 when he led an army convoy across the U.S. to test roads. He wrote that the Militor could pull vehicles from holes and pits, and one night one came into camp towing 4 trucks. As this ad states, they cost $450 and $575.

The Kaufmanns are best remembered today because in 1936 Frank Lloyd Wright designed for them the most famous house of the 20th century, Falling Water, in Bear Run, PA.

I have come to the conclusion, here's where everyone is supposed to agree with me, that if this was the only thread on the HAMB it would still be worth coming to at least once every day.
BTW, I still haven't found what Rocky did. How are we supposed to know what not to do if we don't know what has been done?

Very nice. My parents always said that Tom Mix was one of the silent stars who did not do well with the advent of "talkies" because his voice did not match his image. I have never heard him speak and cannot confirm that.
