The first auto races were held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on August 19, 1909. The original surface of crushed rock and tar proved dangerous and racing was halted after several fatalities. The track was resurfaced with brick and reopened with the first Indianapolis 500 on May 30, 1911.
Track founder Carl Fisher is shown driving a Stoddard-Dayton on the new track in 1909.

On October 7, 1960 the first episode of Route 66 was aired. TV character Tod Stiles (played by Martin Milner) inherited a Corvette from his father. Thanks to Chevrolet sponsorship, that car was transformed into the current model each season. Here Milner poses with a ’63 Corvette.

Mom and Dad with a new Hillman. My Dad didn't have any particular allegiance to any brand of car until the mid 60's, but he never bought Fords. Later in life he was all Mopar. Bought many a car & truck form SL Savage [SIC:confused:] Mopar dealer in Seattle.

I just watched this ( I slept in...):

Watch what might be the world's oldest dashcam footage from 1926

Sorry if it's a repost at this point. Maybe someone could help with the embedding?

Part II of the very popular series is now up on TheOldMotor.com. It tells of George Schuster's involvement with the E.R. Thomas Co. up until 1907, the year the 22,000 mile New York to Paris race started. As always there are plenty of great photos and an interesting story to be read.

And please make a contrubution to our fundraiser for the non-profit McPherson College for equipment and tools if possible. All the details can be found here.
