I'm far more intrigued by her tan lines - my eye is immediately drawn to that, and she has a very nice face and legs, but then it's straight back to the tatas.

Local legend is that they were loaded up and then dumped at sea after dismal sales in the US. As a side note: I bought one once for $50 (guy wanted his new tire money back) drug it home in a string, fiddled with the points, and sold it later the same day for $600 after driving it for about 6 blocks... go figure

 

I remember reading in the back pages of Hot Rod about someone buying a bunch of them to race. Kind of like a go kart track rental. IIRC, there was a pic of Richard Petty racing one around a dirt track.

 

Don -- anybody -- from the year of the Plymouth coupe ('35?), what might this fella been campin' out for? A talk from FDR, maybe?

I don't think they met Federal safety regs. I remember, I think OCIR bought a bunch for an offroad track they had.

Outside of Ebbets Field during the 1920 World Series.

 

This photo was taken in Niles, Ohio at some point in the teens and the owner/driver of this interesting racing car was John Clingan. West Peterson who is the editor of the AACA Antique Automobile magazine, would be happy for any help in trying to solve the mystery of the brand of car this racer was constructed from. It so far has stumped everyone.

It obviously was a very well built car, as was done in the era, with the radiator and probably the engine and transmission being set back in the chassis (although a few brands were built this way). There is also the possibility of it being built out of the parts of several different cars. This much is clear; It was very well done and appears to be about a 30 h.p. chassis, on about a 108&#8243; w.b. and it is equipped with three quarter elliptic springs.

Towards the end of WW11 the Pike was not a very nice place for family's. Is that tunnel under Ocean Blvd still there?
In my youth we used to take the PE from Compton for 10c get go through the tunnel to Rainbow Pier. Oh what memories

Consumer Reports Magazine rated the Subaru 360 "Not Acceptable" because of safety issues and the lack of power which was pretty much the kiss of death for the 360, at least in the USA. I was in Minneapolis at that time and someone set up a "pop-up" dealership on a vacant lot downtown (sort of like they do with Christmas tree and pumpkin sales lots). Advertised retail was about $850. The "dealer" came and went in a couple of months.

 

There was one in Memphis. It was called Fastrack, a real joke. The layout was closer to a motocross track than a dirt track. I don't think the cars reached 25 mph. I went to check it out and left after five minutes.

Am I seeing things or does the hood look a little taller then normal.

 

Look how tall the roof is, they had to raise it to match the rest of the car.

 

you're right, these are the Flxible Co. conversions, they raised the hood height to make the proportions match, looks a bit scary when you're standing in front of one o' these! but lots of room for blowers, horns or whatever ya like!
