After getting the 40 Ford mocked up and ready for teardown for paint, I finally got a chance and took a close look at the first flathead block I have going to the machinist:

One cylinder looked like the last guy hacked the piston out with a friggin chisel - jeez...

All the others look much better though -

This piston must have come out of that hacked up cylinder -

The rest looked good - but I won't be able to use them on this engine after the cylinders get bored....

Hopefully I can use them in the other block, which has smaller holes....we'll see.

He He - you could say that, but I also had the 2 weeks off over Xmas. Tomorrow is back to "work" (for 3 days) before I can get back to the shop. Next I'll be pulling the engine from the 40 Ford so it can go for paint and while it's there I'll be able to pull this ('27 Ford) rod in to start on the frame!

Here's the two 94's I just finished rebuilding, with smaller (4.5) Power Valves to compensate for multi-carb set up:

Check my blog for the entire rebuild.

    cool project e-tek,
are you going to be making a new chassis or using the original? Im considering a T build
at the moment as i have found some early T pieces out in the scrub at the right price.
I have heard that the original chassis were made of spring steel and do not like being modified and the likes.

Hey,e-tek, what part of Sask are you? I am a flathead fan too, maybe we could swap some bits and pieces?
    I am building a T body on A rails with a 255 Merc engine.

I haven't heard that myself but I have seen MANY original frames modified in a million ways! I'm going with the original, modified as I like. They are strong enough for any flathead power, but you may want to box it in for anything larger. I personally don't like the look, or the "feel" of making frame sfrom square tubing.

Saskatoon. I'm also on the Sask FTE chapter - lotsa guys from SK there. I have tons of parts due to also having a 46 MErc truck (Avatar). Let me know what ya have/need!

You had two weeks off ? C'mon Ed that can not be true. You have been so busy.
Will you Box that Chassis for some extra strength ?

When I have the shop doors open (in the summer of course!) and some of my rides outside, the neighborhood kids come around and say "Wow man, you are dope!", and that all my stuff is "dope", but I could never figure out exactly what they mean....

Anyways, I was playing with some stuff today and got this mocked up...

As I was playing with the flatty, I started thinking about the project. If you look back, you'll see it has complete fenders and boards, in fairly good shape too. When I see photo's like this, I'm torn between fender and fenderless!

Gotta get the 40 out for paint before I can get the 27 into the shop...

As I said, I have to get the '40 Ford to the paint shop before I can get the '29 in!

After puling the mill, I spent some quality time with the rear bumper brackets, getting them so the bumper will be tucked into the body and then lining up the holes - the torch was definitely the tool of the hour!

Being spring-steel, these things are TOUGH. After going through a couple drill bits and a then a couple of carbide bits, I pulled out the torch again and opened the cock-suckers up with fire...

A little chrome makes a big difference!

Just close enough to get a polishing cloth behind it -

Before I shut 'er down for the day, I did a little work on the hood (to clear the rad), welded up some interior bits and then pulled the running boards off -

Yes the opposite here. Plenty of events and Suncream. Although almost every event so far has also had a smoke haze as well.

On my 27 rod project I'm leaning towards a "Quarter-Eliptical" front end treatment. Seems to simplify all the suspension geometry issues of the suicide front end and is fairly easy to put together. Also drops the front way down - even with a stock axle. Has anyone else looked at doing it this way?

As the 40Ford awaits room at Graveyard Customs for it's color coat, I'me staying busy with the details, like tweaking the console for the upholsterers -

The car is missing one bumper bracket. Although they are spring-steel, we decided to make this last one out of mild steel. I'm sure it'll work fine.

    The heat maker....

I had made a torch holder a while back, but today the God-damed thing fell off and burned my shoe:eek:, so I had to upgrade it -

Withthat done, I got back to the job at hand. After a lot of heating, bending, hammer, measuring, drilling...I got it pretty close.

Next, I tore down and repaired the vent windows and window surrounds -

Bagged and tagged the parts for re-assembly.

Repaired a few dents on the surrounds -

Also repaired some chrome pieces that go on the leading edge of the hood -

When it goes for paint, I'll be able to pull in the '27T for teardown.

The parts that have been repaired are piling up!

Did some work on the SS moldings for the 40 Ford.

Some of the tools I used -

Often you have to make something that works for the job at hand.

    After a little work -

    ..and a little more -

    Getting there -

Almost ready to polish. Just 10 more pieces to go...
