History Classic Hollywood Stars and Their Cars

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bill McGuire, Jan 8, 2013.

  1. Here's another fun item, hopefully: famous people and their cars.

Automotive executives, celebrities, musicians, and mainly cl***ic Hollywood stars with all sorts of automobiles. And a few surprises, perhaps.

How many are you able to recognize? Any personal favorites -- cars or owners? Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking!

  3. I barely remember that movie but I seem to recall a Merc stunt car flying through the air.

Who's in the fenderless car? In the first photo it sorta looks like Cary Cooper, in the second photo his facial features look different, so now I'm confused!

OK, not only can you probably name the star and the car, but it's in my garage!

  10. You nailed it, that is indeed Gary Cooper. And that's a Duesenberg he's stripped down into a gow job, too. He was flush, one could say.

Yeah, Cooper and Clark Gable were really into hot cars. Both had Duesy's and I believe Gable's had a a "Darin drop" at the top of the doors. His, I believe, was a shorter wheelbase job.

And in that pic where Gary is sitting in the driver's seat, the admiring man in the tails on the running board is William Powell.

  14. Exactly. Of all the photos in the gallery, my lady friend likes that one the best because she's a fan of the Thin Man movies. I think that's why these things are fun. Something for everyone.

Somewhere, there is a shot of Clark Gable and Ak Miller, looking over a early T-Bird with a blower.

I was going to guess but your Photobucket link gave it away as Marilyn Monroe and her '55 T-bird.

  25. Wow, we (I) need way more info and a pic. How long have you had it, who else owned it, did it need work, etc. etc.

    That is way cool.

  26. I wish ! :) :)

  27. actually she is setting in a '56 bird, see the 3 spoke wheel and the sun visors. there is a '55 bird in front of her car though, crossed flags on the gas door and no sun visors.

  28. If I'm not mistaken, Gable's Jaguar XK120 in the story was a gift from Tony Hulman and that same car is in the Speedway Museum today.
