OT rant my boy is in college 100 miles from home his radiator in his S10 truck started leaking I told him to take it to a local shop and see if they could find where the leak was. He called and said it was going to cost $39.00 for a pressure test and that price would be deducted if they fixed the truck, he calls back in 15 mintues and said that the truck needed a radiator and there quote to replace radiator and anti freeze was $410.00 I told him I would come get the truck so I did this today brought it home bought new radiator and 1 gallon of anti freeze price $151.00 took me 1 1/2 hours to replace I just thought that $250.00 labor was just a little high.

Craigslist has a section specifically for rants-use it instead of The HAMB.

Sounds like your son needs to buy a Chiltons manual. That's the first advice my dad gave me, when I got my first car. Never looked back.

  5. I was going to post about parts mark up, costs of running a business, government costs not to mention a business needs to provide the owner with retirement savings. Blah, blah, blah.
I'll stick to sigh........ Mostly this gets deleted anyways

I've only been a H.A.M.B. member since May, but in that short time I've noticed that people do an awful lot of ranting here. Ranting about poor work, overcharging, what color other people's wheels are... so you're going to deny this guy his opportunity to rant about his son almost getting ripped off by a repair shop?

I say it serves a purpose; the guy has an opportunity to blow off some steam and hopefully find some like-minded folks with a sympathetic ear. It also might give folks an opportunity to warn others of some unscrupulous (sp?)shops.

Thing is, if I see a post that doesn't interest me I just move on and don't look at it. I think a lot of folks on here just like to call people out for no good reason... just sayin.

Try running your own business and see what your rates need to be after paying for insurance, employees, the shop rent and on and on....

I am sure the labor was not that high it was the markup on the parts some shops will markup 100% on parts. The guy I work for does that and I think that is to much. His replay is that is what the standard is for any buddy that sell parts. I tell him thats why we are not buse. When I ran my shop I would markup parts 50% and had more work than I knew what to do with.
