Hey Buggy, I'm not a fan of LCF's, but DANG! That's sweet!

  8. Hi Guys
    Thanks for the kind words
Gary, you should not have sold your Chevy COE
Mike KScarguy, never thought about the female aspect of that (grin)
RMR&C , just a licence plate I had hanging on the wall and the only truck one I had so it went on, even if only for a little while.
ShopDawg That is straight Red Tinter, it had to be bright !!!
HotFR8 Port Fairy is a long way to go for a weekend run from the South Coast of NSW

It will still be a little while before my COE hits the road, have my Willys Coupe apart at the moment so I have to get that back together first. Never a dull moment !1

Wow, Bill you are building exactly what I want to build right down to the color, chassis, engine placement, bed and rear fenders! It looks fantastic, keep the pictures coming!
Maybe by this summer, I'll get my other garage/workshop built and get back to my projects.

    Here's another one I liked.

WOW buggy5872. Without a doubt, your truck has to be one of the nicest I've sever seen. The custom work looks like the truck was made that way. Thanks for the pictures.

First trip around the block today on a recent cold morning - you can see her breath.<!--graemlin::burnout:-->

A little thump, thump, thumpity on the flat spotted tires that sat for a couple decades. Tires and wheels next!

How is the ride on that short wheelbase? Is it choppy or bounce a lot? My 56 ford COE is going to have a 9' pickup box when finished and wondered hoe the ride would be.

Bill, Have you thought about using air bags? My COE has the smallest 16 tires available. When I turn the wheels, there is just enough clearance that they should not hit the wheelwells. Any lower and that would be an issue for sure. I had drop spindles in it a while and it was too low for safe steering. I tried several sets of springs and kept the 1/2 ton ones in it. I still have some 1 tons too. They are all cut shorter however.

FYI - I have to get my 41 pickup****embled and sold before I can get serious about finishing my COE. There just is not enough room to tear it down and work on it right now. Mike

 No updates for a very long time so tell us the truth you have been working on paying projects and no time for your own.

C'mon Bill Do you not know Rod is a stirrer :) like you I am also picking myself up from the floor as I know he is not telling us the full story. As I said he is most likely to busy on paying projects. We all have bills to pay ;).

I love the look and uniqueness of these trucks, had no idea that there are so many. Don't know why the "traditional cops "are not down on this one. My question is about wheel choice. I am building a low 2 ton( long nose) 53 chev, and like most of these, I used an 86 I ton frame for the suspension and gearing upgrade. Knowing that no one built big trucks as rods until maybe the 80s(?), What is a good dually wheel choice to look traditional? I have aluminum 15" Alcoas, that have a nice truck looking sidewall at my ride height, and I have a set of 59 chev 18" dually wheels( split rims) that I like the look of, but will have to run low profile rubber to fit. What is the best "traditional" look for a big truck?

I have posted a pic of my COE a long time ago in this long running thread. But to answer your question, I use the stock steel dually wheels from my donor chassis (74 GM 1-ton). Front tires are 225/75/16, and rear are 235/85/16. Simple stainless trim ring and chrome lug nuts for a little style. Pic to see what the wheels look like

You won't get a modern tire on a split rim.

I think the reason the traditional police aren't in here throwing stones is because there is no better way to build these trucks.

As long as it doesn't get polished 24's and graphic paint its at home here.
