That's happened 2 times in my 57! damn thing hits HARD when i speed shift second. hahaha funny stuff.
It is really hard to get the best of both worlds! I was running a muncie 4 speed behind my 327 in my 55 and I decided to put a 5 speed in it. Hoping to get the best of both worlds. In my opinion I did. So I put a tremec 600 5 speed with a .64 overdrive in it. I am running a 29 inch tire with a 4:44 gear in the car. So all I can tell you is that 1st-4th it comes on like gangbusters and then I slip into 5th gear for highway travel and at higway speeds in Canada and the US I run around 1950RPM. I love that Tremec. I got 25 miles to the gallon drving the 55 from Toronto, Canada to Los Angeles, California
You sure you're not 40 years old and still in high school? Oh wait a minute..... You said you're in high school but you didn't mention that you're a teacher! Right?
i had a 283, 3 speed, 456 gears to start. i changed the gears to 330 so i could cruise. i am going to change it back to the hot rod it should be, if i want a cruiser i will build a sled.
his intro says he just turned 17 (?). the Nova is his "dream" car. so, without a pic of it does not exist.
Funny story relating to this. This actually happened, not a word of exagerration here. Years ago, I was cruising around with a buddy of mine, he had a hard hooking ten second street car with M/T ET streets. We were out on the back roads horsing around, and he was wearing a windbreaker with those angle cut pockets. At one point, he launched on a concrete bridge and the car really hooked. We both heard this funny metallic tinkling sound come from the back of the car. At first, we thought maybe it had torn a couple teeth off the crown or hurt the back u-joint, but we didnt hear the sound again, and everything seemed fine, so we both forgot about it. So we cruised around for a while, then headed back to his place. So we get out of the car and head up to his front door, no house keys. He says "Man, I'm SURE I had 'em in my coat pocket." All of a sudden, we both thought of the funny tinkling sound. Walked out to the car, sure enough, they were on the package shelf! The tinkling sound had been them hitting the back window after they'd "launched" out of the pocket of his coat! We both got a real laugh out of that.
Its not going to hurt the motor to cruise at 4000,its only going to be at about 15% load with that gear. There are thousands of sbc's in boats and they cruise at 4000 and 100% load all day sometimes. What it comes down to is if you can stand it!
x2. As long as you can stand the noise, abysmal fuel economy and funny looks, its not a problem. You do get a lot of strange looks from civilians. On the plus side, it has minimal effect on around town fuel economy. You will be using a lot less throttle to keep up with traffic pulling away from the lights.
x3 had a 65 chevelle 327 powerglide 4.88 gears daily driver, ran 13.0s in quarter also used it to tow my race car for 4 years the only problem: would throw the fan belt until i installed an idler to stop the belt from bouncing. all this to say give it a try
