This is what I came up with for the top back seat mount. My welding is off worse than usual I have a bad thumb on my right hand today I was grinding to close to a corner this morning (something I know better than to do) and the little 4" grinder hung and kicked back and about took the end of my finger off. The rear seat mount welded on the shoulder harness will rap around the main 1 1/4 bar the seat bracket will keep them from sliding side to side.[IMG]

Thanks for all the nice comments when I get burned out I just come in the office and read over them and I'm ready to go back at it again. This hamb web site has to have the best group of members of any other. All the nice comments people donating parts I don't know how it could get any better. I wish it was possible to meet every one of ya'll personally. AHOTROD posted that I might get tired of hearing the complements I will never get tired of it, the other readers might but not me. Like I said sometimes it's all that keeps me going. Thank's again ~Quain~

Thanks Jay believe it or not Cromer found the rear wheels that were on the car in the later 60's.It's a really neat story of how it came about I'll tell it towards the end of the build. But I might still be interested in buying yours PM me with some pic's

Subscribed. Can't wait to follow this weekly. My parents just retired to Townville to live on the lake. Maybe I'll be able to see it up close when I come down for vacation this year. If you see a red and white 57 Chevy BelAir running around it's probably Dad just out cruising.

Yeah Boy! Those 4" angle grinders can put some mean bites on hands and fingers. Trouble with me is, I always want to strip the guards off them so I can use them in ways they shouldn't be used. I'm still using an old Craftsman 7" with a toggle switch, mostly out of stubborness I suppose, It's not like it's convienient really, the darn thing weighs 10 lbs or more. I love seeing the progress on this car. Keep up the good work and be safe! ;)

Your right the first thing I do is get that guard out of the way. I weld with my thumb on the heat control switch now it don't work to good.

I added this brace to the bumper bracket mount it was cracked from the load that the bumper mounted wheelie bars had put on it over the years. As you can tell I am having to wire weld (Take notice Wayne Swofford) the parts that go on the frame where it is bad rusty.[IMG]

While it was on it's side I got ya'll a pic of the front ladder bar mounts. I usually make my brackets a little more fancy but I'm trying to make them look old school. You can also see the rear drive shaft loop that I put in today the front loop is the original.[IMG]

While inspecting the chassis today I found that there was a bad crack you can see where I wire welded a plate on the bottom and run a bead down the side I guess it was a good thing Gene parked it when he did or we might not be doing this rebuild because a few more hard landings it would have broke off. I'm going to look close at the other side when I turn it the other way. Also a good shot of the brake petal assembly.[IMG]

These 2 little tabs are to bolt the aluminum panel that will be between the trunk and driver so it don't flop around.[IMG]

The rod and buckle for the window net another no no for an old school gasser. I fixed it so it can be taken out for displays. All the other stuff that I done today is not something that would be worth posting a pic of. If some of my buddy's come by tomorrow to help me I will get the body back on.[IMG]

I hope to be done with my part this week Gene is going to take over then. When it gets to him the body will come back off then sand or blast the chassis I don't know what he will do on that. Then paint the chassis and put the body back on. I'm going to make the drive as needed to help with that sort of stuff. When all done I will go to Genes and help him with the final assembly.

  27. Awesome progress ! So Quain, which do you prefer working on, high tech modern stuff or very basic old stuff? How about racing? Do you prefer the pro mod or the gasser Willys. That Willys sure looks like fun!

Kev I enjoy working on the old stuff but I can't get creative because it has be put back the way it was. Even when I was building my willys from scrach I had to look at pic of old 60s cars and copy them. I did get trick on my car in places where nobody will ever see it. When building or working on the pro mod I enjoy trying new ideas most of which end up in the trash. As for driving The pro mod it was hard to drive in the mid to late 90s but now it's a joke just like the fuel cars of today. With good tires and tracks now days and all the driver aids kids are comming out of jr dragsters and going right to top fuel. Drag racing used to be a tuff guy sport but just like grand national racing it just for rich kids now. Sorry I get started I can't stop but our sport is dying a slow death. The Willys is a blast to drive and with the 4 speed it takes some talent and balls. I'm still trying to run that dude down to get that pic for you.
