...what year did Plymouth go to a single wheel cylinder in the front brakes? ...would any later year single wh. cyl. brakes adapt over to a 50 Plymouth front spindle? Thanks
You might want to look at the early 60s brakes,I parted a 64 Chrysler and a friend took all the brakes from it to put on his 57 Plymouth and I think he said they would bolt on but not sure on the older cars.
61 or 62. Baking plates for newer are bolt on. But why bother, there are several options for adapting disc brakes. Check with forum member olddaddy. or his web site Rustyhope.com. P15 D24 site is in transition to a new server, the Forum is available but the main site pages are temporarily lost in the ether till the 1/19 or so.
1962 onwards dodge/plymouths had one wheel cylinder with a "floating" backing plate I always thought the 61 and earlier brakes were better but the later ones had a wider shoe rather than a tall long shoe. It allowed them to fit the 14"rims better than what had happendd on the 57-61 cars and increase the swept area of the brake shoe
Chrysler went to the Bendix style brake, beginning with t he 1960 Valiant. I believe the rest of the MoPar line followed suit, beginning either 1961, or '62. 35 deSoto is right, the "center-plane" brake design was a very good item. 4TTRUK
Even thoiugh Mopar may have used the two wheel cylinder design to '61 or so, I don't think the backing plates will interchange after '56. Mopar went to a ball joint suspension in '57 and the spindles are considerably different than prior models. So, a person might be able to use the '62 up design on '57 thru '61 models, but not anything prior to '57, at least as a bolt on. Ray
