I know most of you are building actual vehicles, however I came across this '29 "unsteel" body. I'm with most of you in the fact that an old car has a soul and loves to be pampered and sometimes brought back to life. I would like to be one of these people, but I guess I gotta do what I gotta do. This thing that I found is very lightweight. (probably about 60 lbs) It has a heavyweight full floorpan, two firewalls, two rumbleseat inserts, and some kind of funky tunneled dash. The owner says he has a deck lid and door skins, but can't find 'em right now. It came with a '32 radiator shell, and he threw in an old s-10 rear end. All this for 300 bucks. I have a head full of ideas as what I want to do with this. (no, not throw it away) I have a couple of old engines, but I'm not sure which to use. I have an old 241 hemi that runs very well, an older 327 w/ tri power, a 1951 flathead that came out of a jeepster that runs fine, and a 303 olds with a '39 trans on it. The thing is the olds needs lotsa work, I would like to run a 5 speed behind the hemi, but thats lotsa work on the conversion. I also have a sweet running 350 out of a late model pickup with a 4l60 that would be the less headache of the bunch. Decisions. decisions, decisions. I guess that is what makes this hobby so great. Just wish I had more time to do what I love doin'. Anyway glass or steel, I think it was a decent find and if it comes down to not doing anything with it, at least I'm not out a bunch. Nice talking to you guys. Norm
Keep after him about the trunk lid and door skins,,Even with a ultra cheap glass body you can build a decent car with enough metal reinforcing. HRP
"unsteel", I may use that term in the future. Probably still a good deal at twice the price. Build it and have some fun with it.
Build and enjoy! Original steel is REAL...but that won't make the actual driving of a 'glass Roadster any less fun. I would have jumped at that deal even WITHOUT the prospect of getting the lid and skins!
Anytime you want to get out from under it, I'll put you outta your misery and give you your investment back. Hell, throw in that hemi and I'll even give you a profit! Great score!
Great deal for 3 hundo. Hope you get the doors and deck lid! What is the red thing behind the garage in the background? Almost looks like another body.
Damn why is it I can never find deals like that. Im thinking old school drag car to match my street version.
....build it and use it while you keep searching for a steel body (if you want one).....call it a test-buck-prototype-mockup-thingy....
Tin Can..... Yep thats another body. It's a 'lil shriner mini car corvette. Seems to be in pretty good shape, but he wants as much for that as I paid for the big one. Oh yeah, forgot to mention it but there was a model A frame that had been cut at the firewall that I dragged off with the rest of the "stuff." If I can get out in the barn to clean a spot I'll drag this crap inside and mock up what I think I wanna build........ maybe....
Pretty sure you would have a lot of fun with the 350/4l60 setup. Be sure to get the rear gears & tires the right combo.
If you get the deck and doors, I'd be interested in trading you some real steel Model A body parts for it...
That looks like it could be a hell of a lot of fun for not much money if you play it right. I'm no fan of "patina" real or fake but that one might be a candidate for a fake patina job just for grins and giggles.
good for you. not all of us can afford, high dollar, steel bodies, anymore..that is a good start for a kool hotrod.. but as they say, reinforce with a lot of steel...
Hot Rods look there best at 60 miles an hour, plus nobody can tell if the body is Glass or Steel. If that were an Old Steel body you could easley add a another Zero to that $300. and then you'd have to put in all the patch panels and a floor. Face it, You win! It don't matter what motor you put in front of the Firewall. Just get on with building it. The Wizzard
the Hemi how about the 327. The Tripower is a nice setup and you can easily get a more modern trans on there more easily. I thought that looked like a mini Stingray in the back. I'd like to have it, but I'm sure shipping would run close to the cost of purchase.
Hey Norm! If you build it, it will be cool and I know it'll get driven to near death. So I'm good with it!
Well rust should never be an issue. I would put it together and not give it a second thought. Now there is one thing that I would not build if I found one, if I found a steel Corvette I wouldn't even touch it. I hate fake.
