Thirty-pound egg-shaped aluminum body plopped atop a new Vespa scooter for $25G. Boy, I'm in the wrong business...

Two cool cars I saw at B J today, likely going on sat. Love the 40 deluxe built by Sam Foose. Not a bad line on that car. The original hot rod Lincoln is just cool.

I was unaware that you liked Willyses

I would like that car better with blackwall tires. The poor folks that had to own a Willys certainly would not have the coin for whitewall tires. Heck, they probably never drove on pavement, judging by the condition of the floors on the Willyses that I see.

yes, I agree. A beautiful car.

  12. Ha Ha!

The guy looking at this Willys seems to be saying, "What the hell is this, no Hemi?"!

Sorry, I meant the brown 4 banger Model A Sedan they did in the first episode that I saw.

As a side note, I spent a lot of time around Sturgis in the late sixties. Have you always lived around there?

The Italia is amazing! Was it built by Ghia too by any chance?

And whats the story on that red carson topped 42-ish Ford? Looks strangley familiar but cant place it.

Steve, thanks for the tip on RM. I thought about it, looked it up and then remembered why I never went before.......the $80 minimum admission keeps us Riff Raff out! Their feature car was a Figoni y Falaschi Delahaye too.........

Bob, a**** the po folk that owned Willys' in '40, ,betcha there were one or two who dolled them up with whitewalls! That car was perfect, tires included.

And that guy was not wondering why there was no hemi?....he was the owner and i listened as he explained the travails of rebuilding the four banger in it.

There is no way mere photos can convey how nice that car was. There were two nice stock Willys two years ago at Russo, but this one blows them away!!

I believe the Hudson was Ghia-built....sure looks like it.

Might be the same (stock) Willys that toured the ISCA show circuit a few years ago?
    ..VERY nice car!

    Hey,

The Hudson Italia wasn't built by Ghia, but Italian coachbuilder Carozzeria Touring. Touring built 19-20 Italias for Hudson on Hudson Jet frames. The also built one or two fourdoor Italias!

Both Ghia and Touring built many proto-type vehicles for american auto makers partly because of their ''fresh'' designs, and the fact they would work for about $3.00 an hour:eek:

The red '41 Ford drop-top with the Vette facebars looks Doug Thompson like to me;)

  21. Yep, different grille, trim and tires. Not the same car.

I was guessing Ghia, but you know your stuff on those Italian Coachbuilders.

You are thinking of the '41 that Doug Thompson built for Jack Walker. Both builders used parts of Vette bumpers, although maybe not quite the same way. It was at BJ a few years back.

Doug's build was finished in a lavender pearl and the middle nose was smooth, no '41-like grille. The candy red one at BJ this year was, I believe, built by Squeeg here in Phoenix 10-12 years ago.

Thanks for the great photos! I haven't watched much this year, has anyone explained why you can't log on to bid on the Fantasy Auction this year?
