I can buy an after market 5 window body new now and when it is finished it wont be any differnt than the model B finished.

Think out of the box, if I can keep the 5 window as it and then do another n the next few years, that is a good option.

Now, THAT sounds like a great idea. That bit of info would have shortened this thread by about 5 pages.:D

I like the plan. You could still drop a hopped up flathead in it though.

  8. Congratulations on the find of a lifetime! It's easier to get struck by lightning than it is to find a car like this. You made the right decision Mike. Deuce lovers like me like to see these old cars preserved because we've seen every variation of them Hot Rodded. Barn finds are a special breed that deserve special treatment.

The stock B motor is a 45 mph machine that is good for the neighborhood and that's about it, but you have other options like a flathead V-8 or something like this that our threewindaguy here on the HAMB has: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=751611
If I had the extra money I'd buy it for my wife's B Roadster!

1932 Ford Model "B" engine, equipped with a Riley two port head, Riley aluminum side cover (not yet installed), Riley water inlet, Ansen aluminum intake manifold with Ford carburetor, Mallory ignition, cast iron, porcelained exhaust header and exhaust system that will fit a Model "A" (not shown, but included). Asking $6500 (now $6000). (cylinder head alone current list price is $4750) (602)790-3532

As I said, LEVEL-HEADED, cool-headed thought process, man. As is, a really rare bird. Even if you were only looking at its investment value, it has (IMO) a unique potential that a lot, or most, finished cars would not. It's your ace in the hole! They're not makin' 'em like this anymore.;)

Cool motor. I messed with mine yesterday and she turns over. Amazing. Still working on getting it started. Got her home yesterday. She was at my buddy's shop before. She is tucked in safe and sound.

good call on keeping it original. I dont think I can say I've ever seen an almost-stock one.

Awsome barn find! A 32 no less! I live in CT & you would be amazed at what I know of sitting around in garages & barns. Ive actually started to pik up a couple barn finds myself. Do that 32 the way you want, its been sitting since 1960 & probably cant wait to burn some gasoiline again.

WOW is an understatement. You see "Barn find" being used way to often, but that is the true definition of a barn find. I totally agree with you on leaving the body alone and not copping or channeling it.

Thanks! Does anyone know when the Rex-a-Co Guage was made or when it may have been added to the car?

Mike, they are currently reproduced. I believe they were available originally in the model a era. I'd guess the higher range oil gauges like yours probably came out a few years later. I will see if I can find any better info for you.

Mike, here is an ad I found for rex-a-co gauges. I can't read the date at the bottom, but in the accompanying article, it says the ad is from a magazine in 1931.

I'm not suggesting he restore it. You're right; there are a lot of those.

I think there's a lot of value in simply cleaning it up and leaving it as is. Cars are only original once.

Any suggestions on how to modernize the engine for reliability without losing its "originality"?

Check out the monthly banger meet threads. Lots of good info.

Also, for inspiration, check out Dan Webb's B Tudor.

Check out Secrets of Speed Society. They have various things going on, including some wonderful cast iron 4 into 2 headers. . If you google Model A or Model B overhead valve conversions you will find some interesting things. I run a stock B. It is a 50 mph machine, but I seldom drive it that fast. I have several old and slow cars, but they are at least as much fun as fast cars, just a different kind of fun. I applaud your decision to not fill the roof, paint, etc. As said, everyone would think you have just one more fiberglass rod. An OHV conversion will make it run faster, you can put in a T5 5 speed, but would have to cut the cross-member. If you truly MUST have more speed, a flathead 8 would be workable and look ok. I am pretty sure there have been folks that have pulled big (90-100?) horses out of the four with an aftermarket flathead, ignition, headers, cam, etc. First thing to do is just get it running and see what ya think!

What an unbelieveable score! You are very lucky to find a 32 that has been unmolested. Congrats!
