There can be a lot of variables here. What specific chassis is the pan from?

I have a '55 Chrysler and '57 Chrysler at home and can measure them for you later.

Or you can do what I've always done, just fill the pan with the correct amount of oil and mark a dipstick with that level. ;)

I don't have a stock stick for my motor. It has a central sump. It really shouldn't matter which pan since the height of the sump is the important thing. What I did was go to AutoZone and get a cool looking chrome dipstick, drilled the old dipstick hole to 7/16" to fit and drove in the new tube. After putting in 5 quarts, I put in the new dipstick, pulled it back out, and using a file, just made new marks on it according to where the oil was on the stick. Hope this helps.

Well it's a 57 392 out of a imperial but somebody put a rear sump pan on it and put it in a 56 desoto. I didn't really know how many quarts of oil it holds to mark a new stick that's why I was asking for general length to get me close

You could have just asked that! Dip sticks are the same lenth for Chr hemis, center or rear. Nominal capacity is 5 qts. Throw in 4, mark, add one, mark.
