The commments on these threads about people having more money than brains are laughable, think about that statement for a second. If this is true how did they aquire the money? If the statement is true than that would explain why some spend a small fortune to go fast on a lake, drag strip, race track etc. Try and get your investment back when you are done...good luck. We spend our money as we see fit, to endulge into whatever hobby turns our gears so to speak.

The Batmobile is an investment, it can be held onto for an untold time and should the buyer decide to sell in the future the money comes back, maybe more. I'm happy for the buyer and seller:)

Heck people inherit money all the time.

I would be amazed if anyone would ever pay that kind of money again, but I was amazed that two drunk rich guys fought it out for that much to begin with.

Most people that can spend that kind of money are not Dummies. The guy got what he wanted. Rare baseball cards have sold for more.

Would have been nice if they could have moved all the livestock off the stage so we could see more of the car! What is it with people and being on camera... yikes!

Everything is life is relative to how much money you have to spend. Most of us can't begin to understand just how much money some people have. I'm sure there are people who think guys like us, who will spend $ 20K on a some rusty old barn find, are crazy as hell. Why do that when the same money will buy you a brand new Kia with a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty?:D

We common folk just have to accept that to some people $4.2 K is just loose change and the guy who bought it probably won't miss it one bit.

It'll only be an investment if he can MAKE money on it, at 4.2M he'd need to sell a lot of tickets plus whatever the resale value might be to make anything on it.

4.2 Mill. alright after all that, I have a trivial question.

I can can sure see Barris slapping a Barris crest on the fenders, but why the Ford oval??? I know it started as a (Ford) Futura. Do you suppose Ford PAID Barris to sport the Ford logo?

The crests, oval and tires need to be deep sixed-if the new owner knows anything about the car.

I wish things were the way they were in the past, when successful people that made money and emploied people were looked at with admiration, and respect. Making money and spending it makes the economy work.

Thought it was 15% to the purchaser and 8% from the seller?

Those are the fees that were mentioned earlier in the week.

Or is that on a different tier of cars (as in different for the Saturday cars)

Not sure which one this was, As barris made more than one for the TV series, and for car shows around the country, But about 18 years ago I was at a indoor swapmeet in Alabama, And there was one of the original barris batmobiles there, priced for $35K At the time I thought that was a fair price for it.

This is exactly right!......Common people like us, place way to much value on money sometimes, When in fact money is nothing more than a tool to be used to get what you want, this guy wanted that car and he had the money, So I am happy for him. I spend all my money all the time, and just work and get some more, My plan is to die Flat Broke!!...with as many old fords as I can....LOL

Wonder what George is going have to pay in income (or is it capital gains?) tax for the $4.2 mil he's getting?

I see his son Brett was there - I've met him a few times and he gave me a tour of the shop once. Nice fellow.

I wonder how much the car would have brought if it where still in it's original Lincoln Futura
Form and in perfectly preserved or restored condition. I wonder if it could have topped what it brought as the Batmobile. Not being a purist or anything, I love the Batmobile
And the whole story of how it was created but I do wonder...

Also, in today's funny money economy, the dollar is only worth about 60-70% of face value so adjusting the math, apps. How much did it go for... After taxes?

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the batmobile was cooler when it was the futura and I would probably restore it back to that just to piss off the whole world. (If I had that kind of money.)

To put it into perspective, Judge Judy has been on TV for 16 years and makes $5 Million a year. Do the math. :D She lives down here in Naples and bought a turned wood bowl from a friend of ours for $ 2,000 at a craft show. I ate dinner out of a $2.99 ceramic bowl tonight, but if I made $ 5 Million a year I would probably buy a better one too.:D

No kidding, most people now are too busy crying that someone else has more than them and should give them some to make it "fair".
