Ok i looked and looked and could not find anything on how to just a bunch of pictures of cars with them, i was wondering if anyone could help me out with how to put the 56 packard taillights onto my 54 chevy. Would it be better to just use a bezel and make the rest or use the rear quarter panel with the tailights. Pictures would help a lot if anyone has any of the process.

A section of the Packard rear quarter panel was cut off and grafted on to the receiving car. It was a common swap in the day. Loved it!

Like Bob Scott said this was a pretty common conversion. Old custom car rags used to publish how to's all the time. To me the best jobs are the ones without the chrome bezels. Here are just a few photos of the results:

Lots of people have done this but does anyone have pictures of the process, or can anyone else explain any other information about how to do this

  7. cut fit and weld
should be about all you need to know
the ask it mentality of the computer world

if you really need it you could finish with a little bondo and prime and paint

This is what I did too. Make a rod frame around the shape of the light. Figure out where this flows into the quarter the best and skin it with sheetmetal. Here are a couple of pics of the sheetmetal over the skeleton, I do not have any pics of the rod before skinning it.

i like them best when the quarter is cut back instead of extended--like tip bell's 55 chevy convertible ---no pics of course

Find a copy of January 2001 Rod & Custom. Very good article about David Guymon installing '56 Packard lights on a"53 Buick. Would be similiar to your car. Hope this helps. Couvy

I used 3/16 round stock and built frames for the tail lights. I bent it all by hand, and clamped it to the back of the tail light bezels and tacked it. Then after I got the form I wanted i finished the welding. I then added sheet metal for mounting purposes to the bezel. Cut my rear fenders back, the used round stock to get the shape and countour I was looking for and hung my frames from the fenders. Then simple sheet metal over the round stock. Hardest part was rebuilding the bottom of the fender under the tail light housing so it didn't look funny.
