Looking good! Since I am piecing together a set of Buick trim for mine, can I ask where you got the clips to put yours on? The ones I am most concerned about are the ones for the big pieces on the rear fenders. Mine are missing and I'm not sure what I'm looking for.
I went to a body shop supply store and bought butterfly clips for the front fender and door mouldings, these have a 10/24 stud and I have nuts for them but would like to find proper speed nuts for them, the rear 1/4 pieces you can not get to the back side of the 1/4 panel without un bolting the 1/4 so I made up a different system to install them. I'll see if I have pics cause a pic is worth a thousand words , other wise I'll take some pics and post them.
I forgot about not being able to get to the back of the 1/4. I would love to see pics of what you came up with if you find them. Thanks!!
Beautiful!!!!! I hope you run bias plies with at least a 3.25 inch white. Goodyear Supercushions with a 4.25 inch white would look PERFECT. Radials would really hurt the beauty of this car, and bias plies are more than capable of being driven long and hard. I drove on my firestone Deluxe Champions daily for 2 years, going 75 mph, through rain, snow, everything. I never wished I had radials.
Not sure if this is how the big boys would do it but this worked for me.First I took and shaped a piece of stainless and flanged the edge with my flanging tool, then I massaged it with a hammer and anvil to fit the body, I also predrilled it so I could attach it to the 1/4 panel. Now that it is attached I am pointing at a bent out tab at the leading edge, this is to stop the stainless from sliding back on my hanger and having it come off. The front part of the spear is made out of a 54 olds rocker panel I had laying arround. These are joined to another piece of stainless which has holes predrilled so I can attach it to the bottom of the 1/4 panel. and a pic of the bottom attached to the 1/4 panel. Voila ! I'm in Love!
Excellent!!!! Thank you for the pics on the 1/4 piece. Brilliant. That's how I shall do mine. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Damn, I just remember the mint 49 coupe I had and sold it to buy another ol 57 Chevy. Duckin Fummy!! ~sololobo~
Holy H.A.M.B. Hocks, what a sweet ride, cudos on a super sweet build, love all your imaginative work. Most excellent!! ~sololobo~
What a great balance! The 2-3/4" chop is just subtle enough that it looks like its built from the factory that way but looks more streamline. Nice progress shots too.
Hmmm, I'm considering a 235/75 15 coker radial, wonder if any body has an opinion about that. It will lift the car about 3/4 of an inch but the ride would probably be nicer, as well it would slow my engine rpm down slightly and have a 3 1/8 whitewall. A possible concern might be that my caddilac rims are only 5.5 inches wide.
Bad Bob, you are probably right, the reason I started to consider this is because someone told me the convertibles and woody wagons ran a 7.60 15 tire.
I have the 215/75 15 Coker radials on mine. I like 'em. They rub the corners of the inner fenders where that step for the vent ducts is on tight turns, so I wouldn't go any bigger. But, other than that occasional rub, I have no troubles. Also, I'm running a '69-'72 Nova clip with discs for what it's worth.
thanks doc, you are running the same sub frame and your car looks like the same ride height and the tires look good on your merc .
Mine's low....not airbag low, but scape it on a nice speed bump low. As is common knowledge, I didn't do the original build, but I don't think there are any cut coils or dropped spindles up front. I'm running Posies Super Slide springs in the back with a two inch drop plus 3 inch blocks. I'm about an inch below the frame snubbers back there, so I could really use a mild c-notch and could stand to raise the tunnel a smidge right at the front edge of the rear seat. All that aside, the car rides great, rarely bottoms out or rubs any place....and I drive it a LOT (3k miles since May). I think you are really going to like your set up and will find it very "real world" driveable. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Bad Bob, b-bob, and drdave you are right , the tolerances or clearance is critical and the 215/75 15 or 7.15 15 is the best bet.
I realize those bias tires are beautiful but I had L78s on my 50 lincoln and it was a white knuckle ride till they finally wore out and when I replaced them with radials my wife told me that now she would take it and I could have the old brown suburban.
