Thanks, the wife knows what I want and really wants to drive around in the pickup in the Spring, so she is excited about it too. Thanks for the info Green, I'll probably start thinking of another way to take care of the floors then.
It is easy to upholster them.. Look at yours that you have, they just have a couple clips (to make the ends look pretty) on the end of the seam, really all it is is one big piece of material that is folded over and sewn along the outline of the visor. I will of course sew some pleats into it before all that to match the rest of the interior. :D Really easy stuff. something I can get done in less than a half an hour at the shop. Next time I am down there I will be finishing up the seats and be ready to bring the finished product home.

Ive been reading this and doing some debating myself. My plan is that I'm going to wire brush all the loose rust and vacuum and degrease / clean the floor and then use RustMort to convert the rust. After that I'm going to spray adhesive and set my foiled insulated jute and then lay down the carpet. It's so damned cold here that I'm concerned about the spray adhesive actually tacking up, and I figure in this cold I won't get the carpet to budge from it's current Tootsie Roll configuration, so the floor is going to have to wait...

You are correct on all of your concerns. I have not had luck with rust converter in the past. Evertime I would use it it would find a way to surface rust again. I decided after doing my entire plymouth in it to keep it from rusting away that I will never waste my time or money with it again. That's my experience, but you have done such an excellent job with the truck why skip the little details?

Not sure "excellent" is the adjective that I would choose. I don't have any long term experience with RustMort. If rust does come back up, and POR 15 offers inconsistent results, what option do we have? Should the floor be painted after derusting?

AAHHH the suspense is killing me! haha.

I finished up the seat covers (they look amazing), stripped the paint off of the visible parts on the seat frame, upper and lower. I still haven't got around to painting it, driving back down there to finish my sun visors, or putting the new cover on the seat.

I got slammed last minute by medical bills from my heart problem and ER visits and have been selling stuff out of the garage to help cover my costs. I also have had interviews almost every day since companies now have their new budget to hire people. There is a place right down the street (30 second bike ride) that will make an offer on Monday that I will be taking for an Design Engineering position... so that means I get to start spending money on cars again once everything subsides. I will post some pictures here shortly

Well I have it almost done. I need to use some rivets and some fender washers on the bottom to keep it in place... but overall I am pretty much done. I will definitely need to get a set of new seat rails that are not bent, so if anyone has the pair and the connecting rod that would be slick. Here are some pictures.. I think it came out pretty nice. I will head back down there to do the sun visors sometime too when I am ready to do the carpet (the visors will be pleated as well with some headliner foam and maybe some 1 inch pleats instead of 2.

not hard, is that what your problem is? You need the pattern from your seat, I can send you a couple patterns if you want from some seat covers that I have. When you sew it on you just sew 1/4 inch from the edge of the material and then you have a seat. How old is your vinyl on your seat? is it cracked? If it is, it is probably too old to sew together. All in all I have about $300 bucks into the seat at cost.

Hope you're feeling better, Scott! And I hope you're not selling any '40 Plymouth parts without calling me first...

Well my first week back at work is going great. It is a killer place to work, everyone is really cool and they treat me extremely well...

I worked on the seat a little today... I painted everything and am working on the seat rails since I cannot find suitable replacements for a decent price. It seems like everyone wants to get rich off of a sale for used parts that are not in great shape. Some a-hole wanted 75 bucks for a pair and the connecting rod plus shipping for something not as bent as what I had, but nowhere near perfect... lmao. I will post some pictures soon

I was sweating for you. Sometimes as a engineer it can be years between good jobs. I ended up as a instrument tech in a chemical plant for six years, horrible conditions wearing a gas mask daily. I had child support and hotrods to keep up.

Wish you the best, my truck build is in high gear now. 23 here this morning thou.

Seat looks great, I'm still scratching my head on mine.

Some of you guys were sending me multiple PM's on how I did the bottom of the seat. I just used some pop rivets and some washers every 4 inches (its overkill 6 inches would do). Here are some pictures of the underside of it. I need to go to the store tomorrow to get some more washers and maybe some longer rivets for the pleated side. I will also straighten out the rails tomorrow and figure out what I am going to do about the rod. More to come soon.

Nice, i need to drop a set and just do my own upholstery. I keep trying to find excuses not to do it out of fear of effin it up. lol, what are decent sewing machines to look for. Glad the new job is goin well too....

You won't learn unless you mess something up, start with cheap, crap material from a joanne's fabrics. something that is a couple bucks a yard and try it out. Since you are not doing this for a living just find a mild to professional sewing machine. You don't need the industrial machine for your upholstery. Ill have to grab the names from the shop because they escape me right now. You can spend around 100 bucks for a pretty decent one to do what you need done.

Here is a shot of the finished bottom seat with the original rails I am going to reuse. They were covered in about 1/16 of grime and after cleaning them out they seemed to free up a bit for movement. So after I am done painting them I am going to use some good grease and make sure that ball bearing in there is properly covered.

    Here are the pictures

I have been working on the bed LED lights and have wired them, and snaked them through the rear stake pocket. I will finish everything up with some pictures soon. I will also have to start on the license plate bracket soon as well. It looks like they went and shot the light bulb socket with epoxy primer so the bulb will not ground, so I will have to use some paint stripper on it to see if I can get it to work.
