Anyone done, seen, or know of anyone with a quick fill gas cap set up on their model A? My gas tank is in the trunk and I thought it'd be cool if there was a quick fill cap that was close to flush with the trunk lid. I could eliminate the bulky trunk latch handle and that would make me happy.
That's cool Anyone else? I thought I had see one in a build thread from one of our friends across the pond but I'm not sure.
I don't have a good pic of this but it's a marine screw in type filler. It's exactly like Second Amendments only black. My tank is behind the seat in the roadster. I think the location looks good but it's kind of a pain to put gas in, keeping the hose off the trunk lid.
Marine supply stores are a good source for flip caps. This one is cast brass chromed. It's vented and does not leak.
Maybe something like these? if ya shop around you can find em cheaper,i paid $30 shipped awhile back. http://www.ebay.com/itm/WELD-AIRCRA...1684&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/WELD-IN-FLU...6501&pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr
Nothing to do with Model A's but thought it might be of interest if you're looking for a cheap alternative. Heres what I used on my Comp Coupe, couldn't afford a Moon spinner and found this old Cragar wheel center on Ebay for $25, made a spacing ring to fit between the twist off cap on the tank, pressed them all together then put a small grub screw in the side for added security. I like it better than the Moon spinner I couldn't afford, it's unique and it's got a nice patina to it. Ray
Hey, man, brilliant minds think alike! There goes my patent. I made mine from a Halibrand wheel knock-off from an early 60's Lark/Avanti. It was living hell to adapt it to my odd thread screw-on bung in my 1924 Federal-Knight gas tank. But, it spins like butter (and cheaper than the Moon repop). Truthfully, there's a HAMBer here, that's an even older fart than me, that says he did that back in the 60's. So, it's officially traditional.
That is cool, knew I wouldn't have been the first to do it.............and yours has more street cred than mine too, nothing cooler than a Halibrand. Nice to be different Ray
I used a large flip top to fill the 20 gallon tank I built for my old coupe. notice there is still plenty of room to fit a pair of shorts and socks in the trunk.
Woah! You dont even have a trunk. I have been planning a tall tank stood up behind the seat, full width so that my trunk will be useable
