Nope. I bet he has already autographed the dash and posed for pictures with it....

The hoodside goes all the way to the door (from HellsHotRods thread).

One, neither of those are requirements for AMBR.

Two, you didn't look at the Woodward Roadster. EVERY SINGLE PART on that car is period correct...EVERY PART. Its deceivingly simple design will fool the untrained eye. For the knowing, it's an absolute masterpiece in period design and execution with only vintage parts.

As for the Mumford roadster, it's stellar as well. The two of them would be dream cars for me.

Yuck. The guys at Squeeg's are amazing, but that is far from my style.

Thats the Kelly Brown car I refered to on Ryans thread. Sure looks good in paint. Some of the work on the chassis on that car is pretty slick.

No this is the car that was in TRJ last month, Kelly brown started on it in the seventies, Steve Davis and So-Cal did a bunch of work on it, then Kelly Brown put the car up for sale, Mumford bought it and had Brizio finish it. The V-8 60 Ardun came into the picture with Mumford.

A little birdie told me today that he has another V8-60 Ardun setup that might get built with a SCoT blower...maybe.

I've never been a big T fan, but that 27 is beautiful, get's my vote!

As for the loooong Phaeton, just think of the time, effort and money that went into that, tragic!

You are not looking at the small pictures he posted of the unrestored one at the bottom of his post.

  12. The designs of Edsel Ford & E.T "Bob" Gregorie were a huge influence on the overall theme of Jade Idol's modified. Here's a photo from 1940 showing a clay mock up of Edsel Ford's personal open roadster designed by both men, without a windshield and with head lights.

  13. I can't speak for the guys in Texas, but I do know the story behind John's screen name. It's the Gene Windfield built Jade Idol, John's favorite kustom of all-time. In fact, when John and his best friend, a then unkown "Almost-Cool" automotive artist named Jeff Allison met Gene for the first time back in the mid 80's at the Portland Swap Meet. John had "Jade Idol" written across his knuckles in sharpie.

The modified would be my pick. Lots of really beautiful cars. Was burgundy paint on special?

I'm not saying that the Schnoz Phaeton is not hideous, because it kinda is. But once you decide you're gonna build a hot rod around a Spitfire engine, your options for making it look fantastic are kind of limited.

I STAND CORRECTED! I just left the show and to me it is a three horse race in this order:
    1. 902 Farley Roadster (you can not tell a thing from the picture, but it is outstanding. Lots of beautiful, one off fabrication and custom touches. It really is great)
    2. MUMFORD - Brizio - The obvious choice.
    3. 904, 33 Chapman Roadster- It is really awesome as well.

I predict a Sunday Night Surprise.

The photos of 909 do not make it look good to me, the front tires look way too small.

Why is the 27 shown here in a 3/4 view? it makes it look better than the rest, just because the angle of the photo is more appealing.

I do like the fendered '33 a lot

I hear George did do some things on that phaeton with the 237" wheelbase. He helped them position the front wheels in the fender, and signed the dash. I'm thinking he helped to put it over the top, and it might actually win!

If the guy had any good friends, they would have told him not to.

It may not win but the Rad Rods by Troy built Mariani roadster was raced at Bonneville last year & set records well over 200 mph. How much actual use do you think any of the other cars have had ? I realise that's no criteria here but its still impressive to me. Ever tried cleaning your car after a trip there ? If you have then you'll appreciate the effort, I have for the last 28 years, its hard on everything.

glad you said it cause I was thinking it...

I can't understand how the shop that built it could not say something during the build...(I know, all about the $$$), but it is their reputation that is on the line...I just can't picture the owner of the shop standing by the car beaming proudly...

I'm confused...I thought entrants for the AMBR had to be US built and owned?? And a phaeton in a roadster category???

Same question I had and was schooled about it. Phaetons are in the roadster class because of no roll up windows. 2 or 3 phaetons have won the AMBR in the past.

Took a look at these tonight. Far and away, in person I'd take the Mariani. Stunning. And 214 MPH. Won't win, but my favorite. Photos don't do it justice.

I agree with you Kirk, as you can see by my pics, the Woodward crew was busy polishing and I didn't get in there for a close look. I was limited on time. Maybe I'll see you next year.
