My good friend Bo just got his website bohuffcustoms.com up. I thought every on who thought you cant be original with a chopped merc should have a peek at his latest. What do you think Politz?????(Bob) There are a ****load more pics of some unseen tasty customs on the site. The green Merc has a ****load of fresh ideas.
WOW. I'll tell ya Ant, Bo huff's cars run hot and cold with me. Sometimes different is just different. But this green merc...whoa! VERY HOT. What grille is that? 57 Buick?
yeah 57 buick. This guy is like the Beatles of customs. Theres gotta be a few cars you love just because of how many he does. The numbers are staggering...
Where did you find the pic of that Green Merc? That looks like one of the mercs Bo was working on last time I was down at his place this summer. Post some more if you have any!
No offense, but when did Bo Huff become "da man"? Im seriously not trying to be rude, but I've been into hot rods and customs for quite some time and hadn't heard of him into Ol Skool Rodz started pimpin him. Did he appear over night or did I miss something along the way. Looks like he does nice work, but Im just not aware of his roots.
Bo's been arounda long time...sort of quietly doing what he does...it only recently became fashionable, so now he's gettin' lotsa press, just like Eddie Paul. Eddie is another builder I've admired since the 70s when he was building some cool street machines and customs that appeared in magazines now and then, and later when his stuff hit the TV shows and big screen. Great to see guys like these getting the recognition they've long deserved. (It'll help a whole new generation to appreciate their work, too. I always get kinda miffed when I'm talking bikes with some joker at a cruise night, and mention Pat Kennedy, only to hear "Who's he?" in response! There were guys doin' cool scoots before the Teutuls, and same with cars.) Say what you will about OSR giving Eddie and Bo heavy coverage lately...I like it!
No problem! These weren't exactly household names until real recently...so it's easy to possibly regard them as Johnny-Come-Latelys hopping on the Bandwagon unless you knew of their work before. Eddie built a cool 1st gen Camaro that I had a picture of hanging in my room back in the late 70s/early 80s. It was similar to the one Paul LeMat drove in "Aloha Bobby & Rose"...still gives me goosebumps thinking about it! It wouldn't be "cool" by today's standards...but I'd still kill to own that sweet donut machine!!!
I knew who Bo was long before Old Skool Rodz existed when Rod and Custom,Custom Rodder and Hot Rod mechanix featured his work. That was 15 years ago. Hes a versatile custom car encyclopedia who dabbles in every era and every geographcal style of 50s and 60s style customizing while being completely original. He has been doing custom work since he was very young and is one of the few people you can talk to on an equal level about customs depending on how much you know.. The man is a throwback to the days when there were custom shops that produced a high volume of show quality work every year. Name another builder that has the kind of output that Bo does and fineshes every car he starts. The cars go to Oakland ,the quality is there and the guy builds whatever he damn well pleases for himself. Count the cars and then tell me you didnt find one that matches your tastes in customs....whether it be one of the mild cars or the more radical ones. As far as Eddie Paul goes I am now being educated because I thought he just built butchered movie mercs.
http://www.bohuffcustoms.com/greenmerc.html Too bad the pics are so small, they look really bad when resized.Already tried it... That Merc is WILD...thanks Ant !!!
Thanks for the heads up. I admire guys that try to do something new for a change. Checking out the pick gets me motivated to go home and start working on the Merc. Happy Trails, Mick
Huff has turned out some ****ters, but *******, that thing is on the money...maybe i'm being blinded by the 58 lincolns, but i really like that MUCHO....
That thing is killer EXCEPT for those verticle headlights. I never have liked them on a sled. Some of his cars have to much 'bling' on them for me.
O-hell no,,,,he is one of the most humble dudes out there and one of the best dudes i've ever had the pleasure of meeting....I've waited along time to meet him face to face and finally got to a couple of months back....I never understood tho for as long as he has been doing this why nobody really ever heard of him...It shocked me that the guys in my area who are into kustoms and what not were like 'Who is Bo Huff??' ..I got to see his photo album and all the progress pics of that car being built...It is truly mind blowing the creative ideas that went into that car....I have always looked up to him and his work plus i will continue to do so as long as i breath....He is right on the money w/the restylin' techinues and the way they use to do them in the lil pages...Bling or not...He builds some of the most amazing sleds in my opinion... Hell, if those pics dont get your blood moving then you must be chilling w/Walt Disney.
Sorry to get slightly off track here... This Camaro didn't happen to be painted red did it... with a few murals here and there? This thing had absolutely gigantic fender flares on all corners and identically sized giant magnesium slot mags and tires all the way around. If this is the car you are thinking of, it belonged to my best friend's cool older brother. They lived right next door to me and that Camaro was awesome. Eddie Paul did the paint and body work on this car. On lucky days, we would get rides to jr. high and high school when we were freshman. I gotta see if I still have the issue this thing was covered in way back when. It might have been in Popular Hot Rodding. Anyway, this was definitely '77 or '78 or so. I know my friend's brother was going for a modified sportsman stock car kinda feel for look, not the usual drag stance. The car was certainly unique. And I remember the thing was totally brutal with no power steering, a roll bar inside, and a 4-speed. It may have had a 454, but I can't be sure at the moment. The custom work and paint wouldn't fly much today... as it was a bit overdone with quite a few murals, striping, etc., but I would love to see pics of this Camaro again. Is there an archive of Eddie Paul's older work somewhere? I would know this car in an instant. Actually, the car had a name... EVIL, WICKED, MEAN & NASTY. That was painted on the spoiler if I am remembering correctly. Does that ring a bell for anyone?
Very cool Merc! I agree with Dirty too.. He introduced me to Bo a few years ago at a local gig he was at.. We all spent some time talking with him and he acted as if he had known us for years. VERY nice guy who's forgotten more than i'll ever know. Tony
He is creative, pushes the envalope and is prolific. He gets the job done over and over again. When I met him he was a nice guy to talk with.Whats not to like?
Why did that link send me to a page called bohuffcustoms that was trying to sell me a Russian mail order bride? Where's the cars?
Pat Kennedy, was old school, when old school, was new school! THE TUETELS BUILD THE UGLIEST BIKES IN CREATION!
