Well, I guess I should spill the beans since you pointed that out. The square part of the crossmember rest on the bottom of the frame. I originally just did it like this to copy the other crossmembers Henry installed and it gives a better angle for the output shaft/ engine level deal. Then i decided exactly what you pointed out about maybe it should rest between the frame rail at that point it was to late so I decided to full weld it, which is happening right now with the rest of the frame finish welding.

Hitchhiker, i must say, the begining of the original thread i was not expecting you`re A to be turing out as cool as it is! i appreciate your posts and info. I am building a 1930 tudor, it is in progress , Frame consists of 32 rails, 39 ford x frame, 39 pedal ***mebly, 39 rear cross member that i pie cut and flattened, model A front cross member, 39 juice backing plates with 36-39 drums and wheels. 39 trans, 38 rear axle unsplit, 53 8ba, 34 truck grille shell, and 34 industrial headlights, not chopped for now. and i am consiering unsplit front bones too.

but long story short this thread has given me and other fellow hambers inspiration. Keep it up!!!

That is the biggest lesson I've learned during my first complete car project.

Finally got all the way through this informative thread, good stuff.

I bet I have 20 or 30 great threads that I've been subscribed to for a long time but can never get caught up to the end, and I never comment until I have got all the way through. Wonder how many of us do that?:)

It's in. Original A crossmember is cut. TT meaasured and remeasured, body needs to come back off the frame.... but I fell and messed up my wrist at the end of November. I've been struggling to just get the customer work done and I'm really not in much of a good mood to type alot and update this thread...I do have some updated post I am working on in word...but progress is slow....I'm just trying to get back healed so I don't have to sell the car to pay bills. I'll probably be driving it before I get this thread caught up.....build threads are hard and time consuming.....especially with one hand. :p

Well, I've done a lot of thinking over the last few months and decided I want something unmolested. A perfect deal for me came up and I but a deposit on it tonight( atleast I think i did, paypal still confuses me.) I've got to make room in the garage for it so pieces of this are going to be for sale...Sorry to let you guys down, But I want to drive one of these before I am 30....That's in 6 months. Anyways, I think you guys will like what I have done, when you see the end results....I'll post pictures when I get my hands on it.

Thanks for sticking along on the ride....Stay tuned for the next one.

OK, Matt, time for me to come out of the woodwork. I am very happy that you’ve found a new and unmolested project that will better reward your efforts. But I am also sorry to see this come to an end—your thread has been a real inspiration to me. In fairness, one thing it inspired me to do is get a complete ch***is for my own project that only needs a little freshening up, rather than try to piece something together myself. What’s the saying? “It may be that the purpose of your life is to serve as a warning to others.” :D

I wonder, would it be possible to keep this old thread going with your new project? I think changing directions—and even changing cars—is a natural progression and part of the hot-rod process.

Anyway, new thread or old, I’ll be watching. Good luck!

Thanks, I'm sad too. but also excited to see the coupe go. It was a big decision for me. I've learned a lot playing with this car. Met some really cool people and had lots of fun. :D I'd like to not have to sell it, But the deal I made with the boss lady means this one has to go by by. I need the room badly and I know I am not going to have time to finish it. I'll probably start a new thread....The best stories are always told in trilogies.

In the end I just hope it goes to a good home to someone who will do it right. It needs a lot of metal work. Knowing what I know now it really needs to be chopped another inch to fix the previous owner damage to the chop. A little note boys and girls. DON"T LEAVE THE PIECES TO BE CUT OUT FOR THE CHOP ON THE ROOF SECTION. Anyways. Stay tuned for the Return of the Hitchhiker.

  22. Yeah I saw your car on Craigs lit yesterday and I thought WTF? 592 posts and you quit!!! Actually I don't blame you!!!! I was feeling the same way wanting to get into the drivers seat sooner than later and thats why I bought the 36. It's too bad you just dont have a little more room so you could keep them all!! I'm lucky that I have room as I would never buy a car that had to sit out in the elements. I actually sold a few because of this in the past before I built my big barn. Since I got the 36 on the road, Im making progress on the Whippet again! Get some pictures up so we can all be ****ing excited for you!!!!!!!

Hahahaha, You got me there. I didn't figure there would be to many that would be able to put 1 + 1 together...BTW I just asked for the paper work for the local model A club too. I guess I should turn in my alliance membership now. :D:rolleyes: I originally had planned on hot rodding the **** out of it...but Fordbarn corrupted me....I'm really not sure what I am going to do now.

I have been looking at it on the "barn" and it is a nice looking truck. Good luck with it but don't be hesitant to add some things. My 29 is pretty much a stocker but I put a 39 trans in it, 35 wires, reversed eye springs and this spring I am putting a thomas head and intake on the banger with two 81's.
