Barn Find (really)

We read story's of people finding cars stored away for decades wishing it could happen to us, but really what are the chances. I have injoyed reading on this site and in magazines all the story's of others finds and never thought it would happen to me, Well it has happened to me. I had been looking to buy a house and a friend told me about an old farmhouse with 7 acres so my wife and I made time to go see the place and while finally working out a deal (took 3 months of waiting because another buyer was ahead of us) for the place we started talking about what we do for a living and what we do as hobbies then we got on the subject of cars and the owner proceded to tell me they had a old car in a building on the property. So he takes me out to look at this car and I could not believe my eyes covered up with a heavy army tarp was a 1957 ford convertable with a panel paint job and a 390 ci 4 spd and 427 parts installed on the engine. So here are the only pics I took of it so far and come spring time I will have an unvailing with friends and totally uncover this great find, more later.

Wow ... a 57 Ford would sure get my interest up . Looks like it's a doable project . Gawd those lace paint jobs were ugly ....then and now !

So......the car is yours now? came with the house? All my houses only came with stupid swing sets that I had to cut up and haul away.

I bet the owner watched Easy Rider more than a few times. Is it a convertible ? In that one picture it looks like a hardtop, but maybe the top is blue ?

This is an awesome find. I love the wheels! Congrats!

 

The paint may look cheesy but theres no way its going to be changed by me, how often do you see an original paint job like this, way to cool. TOMMYD, lol I also got one of those too (swing set). I told the owner I would not buy the house if I did not get the car, so we agreed on a price for the car you - ready for this, I paid his 2012 property taxes $702.36 man am I blessed. Yes its a convertible and yes the top is blue.

 

looking at the photos, mainly the windshield one, it does not look like a hard top to me, soft top.

I may be a dork, But I think the paint is bad ass.

 

So it is a retractable hardtop ? While I am normally a fan of retaining the original paint jobs and patina, in this case I think I would make an exception.

i sure hope you got a title with it ...if you didnt its just a parts car or a race car (no street use) in ohio very very cool find i want to see it out in the sun all washed and cleaned

Didn't you say the guy and his brother street raced it back in the 70's?

 

it is a convertable not a retractable you can see in the pic of the sideglass/door its ashame about the section of missing lace on the quarter youd NEVER be able to match that again

 

this is fucking awesome, absolutely the best part of the paint job.

It's yours now but if it were mine I'd just clean it up the best I could and enjoy it. This is part of history.
By the way is that a retractable hardtop?
All I ever got in a garage was used lumber and some old parking meters.
Like a dumb ass I scrapped the parking meters.

 

That thing might not look so bad after a good cleaning, I guess we'll have to wait until spring!

 

I would drive it as is. Get the brakes and engine in shape. Save the paint . It is only Old Kool paint once not that fake patina crap some guys try to pass off.
