I want to do something showing the year (1957) at least on the back maybe the front of My 57 Dodge Ive thought of license plate frames or some type of plaque that could be bolted to the back of my tail lights I was wondering what some of you came up with to show the year of your vehicle. Ive been wanting to do it for awhile so I gotta think of something.
Does anyone make any plaques to bolt to the back of the stepside pickup or 40's and earlier cars taillights that states the year? or maybe something else thats noticeable but not retarded looking any input Is great.;)

Can't imagine getting angry when asked what year it is. You should get used to it. If you don't want people approaching you drive a Toyota.

If it really bugs you, find a pinstriper who also freehand letters and have him pull a few lines and put something like "Class of '57" on the tailgate or something.

Honestly putting the year somewhere seems campy to me. Don't cater to those who don't get it. Cater to those that do. No year.

You could put "older than you" on the back.

But my wife was born in '57 and I married her since she was a "hot young babe".

edit: btw, that wasn't her only positive attribute.

I guess that was a bad example it bugged me because it was a decade off more than anything, Its not that I get mad, more that it tells someone on the road that wants to know that cant ask. I always get is that a 55, 56, 57, 58? and I know thats what people are thinking when Im driving next to them. I like the plaque Idea (like a car club plaque) just cant find any that exist, might have to make my own, but i wouldnt know where to begin. I have thought about pinstriping but want to keep the body clean.
does anyone make those custom car club plaques?

True, but Most Mopar and classic truck guys dont even get what year it is, they have never seen one before. plus I like to advertise that its from my personal favorite hotrodding time.

  8. Campy ! this one time - at band camp ...

Year of make plates only !!!!
The year tag toppers are SOOOO cheesy, campy, corny, silly, goofy, getting the picture.

Maybe have the vent windows lettered with the info & that may be just as bad.

Looks like the '57 I had as a 16 year old kid. Just put the year on the license plate frame.....funky, but simple.

Whatever you do - many won't read it. I had HOT 41 license plates on my '41 Ford truck - always remember the guy ouside of Denny's on a trip to a show ask what year it was. His wife looked at him dumbfounded pointed at the plate and said "41".......

What's even better is the guys that are stumped for words looking at my COE, then stammer "Did they make them like that?"...... So I get to explain how it became a P/U many times - not just the year...

    ;)

I had some ass hat tell me my '41 Ford Tudor was "a cool PT Cruiser".

If you're driving old cars for recognition, acolades, thumbs ups or a pat on the ass you're doing it for the wrong reasons. Drive it, enjoy it, and KINDLY educate those who are interested in it.

  19. I am sure you did.

My whole take on it is why take a nice truck and muck it up? Maybe a vanity tag is your best bet.

I had thought about that I just wanted to keep my copper az plate I have on my O/T cj5 jeep "77JEEP"
THanks for the help thats more of what I was looking for even though now I feel like I'm going to get treated like frankenstein, if i put a topper on there.

I LOVE talking to people about my truck (I regret putting that whole 67 thing up there that was a longer story of why it made me mad) I want more people to come up and be curious about it but when Im driving around its nice for the people that dont know and to the people who say "if they dont get it oh well", well I dont like that philosophy I think 57 was a cool year and for my truck to have been part of that time is something I would like to display.

Thats why I bought a 57 Dodge for education, hardly anyone knows anything about them or sees them its different and does get alot of attention which Im not gonna say I am against.

I would be mad too about the PT cruiser thing some people assume too much.

I know what you mean I put two Dodge emblems on the front of mine and three on the back and I still get at least once a month " thats a nice Chevy",

but Yeah I love your truck so different from every one else's I was accually reading your build on your COE a few months back and fell in love with the idea of a COE pickup, thought of doing another 57 Dodge but COE like the one M2 diecast company made(never seen one in real life), but it reminded me of yours.

  25. Don't feel bad people look at my '61 Willys and ask what year Ford it is or man I wish I had a roadster like that one. I just blow them off, I don't have time for idiots.

Agreed, I had by spanish/english speaking buddy of mine at a show 2 months ago, and this mexican guy walks up to my truck with his wife and says something to her in spanish and she says something back and they walked away(he had a angry look on his face), so I said to my friend did you get any of that? and he said the guy said" this is a really cool looking chevy!" and the wife responded "its a Dodge your idiot." That made my day:D

Oh and I originally wrote I have two Dodge emblems in the front and I forgot one. so 3 on the front and 3 on the back. thinking of doing some on the wing windows too.:D ....so I should be covered. maybe thats why the mexican guy was so confused?!

Hey that is a sweet looking 57! in NY the registration on the windshield has the make model and the year so I don't have any other ID for the year on my 56. I agree you certainly don't see many Dodges and that is the fun of owning one.
