Vintage shots from days gone by!

Saw this truck at the Ringling museum in Sarasota FL. What a great museum!

 

Drive in Sunday Morning church service... See the Dude on the stage and the other with the collection plate.

 

Went there when we were kids. When I got my licence, I took my girlfriend there in the 70's. Sad to say it's closed now.

 

Wow, tailgating at church, I thought I saw somebody crack open a cold one and spark one up.

 

I'm new here and found this thread just last night. I am on page 29 and there are like 3,029 pages, I hope I live long enough to get through it, 'cause I am diggin' it!

Batman didn't look like that in the 60's.

 

I'm a bit ahead of him - at page 910. I first found this thread in aboot July last year and I guess I've averaged five pages a day (during my lunch break). At this rate it will be a well over another year before I catch up. I've been going on forums since the mid-nineties and this is THE best thread I've ever seen.

You are right, he does say that. I've read 8 and 11 also. I just find that hard to believe. My neighbor had one in about '55. And there's one in the AACA museum with 71 miles on it. They are differant cars and I'd bet there were more. Unfortunately we will never know for sure, as they didn't have trim tags and no official records from GM.

 

This is a 1965 superstock Dodge, owned a raced by Flintstonecharger's, uncle Gene. Flintstonecharger found the car in Canada, bought it and restored it.

 

From "Life" archives, looks like a Hellcat pushed off a carrier, probably too damaged in combat to fly, sometimes the deceased pilot was buried this way.

 

Also from "Life," World War II-era B-24 Liberators in the scrapyard, Kingman AZ, very few survived for restoration later, maybe 4-5?

 

B-17's with removed engines, most of which went for scrap, again from Life

 

Not sure on this one, maybe a North American O-47?

 

Again, not sure where this is, maybe Hamilton Field, near Novoto, CA, late 30s or early '40s? Looks like B-17s on the ramps...

 

Same place as above, 1940...with the closer picture, the planes look like Douglas B-23s.

 

Douglas B-18b's, right before WWII, they were used during the war mostly for training missions.
