O/T Curious what all you hambers do for work?

I'm an elevator repair tech. That's a motor I got to replace the bearing in.

I've been retired for 3 years and couldn't stand it anymore, so I went back to work. You can only watch so much TV and have so many conversations with the cat. I went back into the boating business, on the retail end, and after a month of working I feel really great again.

(Plus, it is nice to have extra money to spend on goodies. )

Been doing estate & business liquidation for the past 6 or 7 years.

Before that was running Past Lane Auto, dealing with vintage racing memorabilia & screen printing.

 

I was a union brick and stone mason for 38 years before retirement, which I believe is underrated by most.

For fun, VP of the local Volunteer Fire Department. 3 stations and 25 plus response and admin. units.

 

Retired UPS driver, 28 years , blessed to have the job, blessed to be retired from it. Currently delivering parts for the local O'Riellys.

As little as humanly possible. I WAS an injection molding process tech for over 20 years but now I'm an assembly tech. It's not glamorous but it pays the bills.

I'm a Weld Engineering Tech. for Vermeer in Pella, Ia. Its a great job, and I am also a Certified Weld Inspector for the A.W.S. As a side job I like to do bodywork/ paintwork and metal work at home in my shop. That's what pays for the toys.

 

I have been a secretary in a Veterinarian's office for 17 1/2 years. Going to be making a change in May. My husband and i also own our own custom home building business. This is our 29th year and i will be working at the office here at home. I have gotten tired of watching animals being put to sleep and the people that get them and then when something happens they don't have a dime to help them with.

Well if I posted on this thread when it was new I was a student, before that i was a machinist and operating engineer, before that I did social work in Mexico. I have also been an automotive machinist and a lot of other things pertinent to the HAMB.

But now after all that info that I have to say this I am currently an unemployed gigolo. Its OK I suppose I was eating up all the profits anyway.

Delivery driver for Interstate Brands and then Airborne Express/DHL for 25yrs before being laid off. Now drive a delivery truck/tanker for Valvoline Oil Co. Like BRUUUCE, I'm hoping to start drawing my Teamster pension in a few years and drive for a local auto parts store or dealership." Will work for health insurance"

same job description, same employer, three or four big projects and a couple little ones later.
now on the down hill stretch to completing a college football stadium

GM new car dealership wrench for 35 yrs. Work on everything that gets pushed or rolls in the door and it has to leave here fixed. My pay is down 40k since '07 and the work is harder than it ever was. Looking to retire ASAP.

ALL these new cars and trucks SUCK and so do the owners.

 

Retired now-worked 39 years for a Utility company going from grunt to lineman them finally retired as Transmission Line Supt overseeing 12-20 crews and Barehand High Voltage work to 500 KV. Then went to the outside and trained crews,ran large energized jobs and oversaw energized high voltage work up to 500 KV for 5 years. Son , son in law and 2 nephews now in the trade. This was a great career but climbing poles takes it's toll on your body-if I could go back, I wouldn't change a thing. Now I just play with old cars. Retirement is great and always maxed out 401K and saved more as well. Only thing I would have done differently is not be so conservative with investments.

 

I have the super illustrious position of Technical Director at a nearby university. I keep theatre patrons happy and make sure no one does anything stupid. I also do a lot of maintenance and design work around the theatre

Employed at GM. Been to 5 plants since 1998. Built Buick Park Avenue/LeSabre, Pontiac Bonneville, GMC/Chevy full size truck, Pontiac G6, Chevy Mailibu, 6-speed transmissions and now employed in Lordstown building the Chevy Cruze. Not quite as good as it used to be, but VERY thankful to have a job. When I grew up in Flint during the 80's the town still had a lot of GM plants up and running. But most are long gone...

 

Personnel Director for GM for 40 years, retired, that lasted for three months. Now Personnel Director of a unit at UW Madison. Living the dream!!!
