I didn't realize so many people were "bothered"By who and or what is being posted in this thread .

  3. They aren't all yachts, they celebrate pretty much any loved wooden boat. Good luck on the search. My dad and I stumbled across an old sailboat we'd raced on years ago in Portland mouldering up at the derelict dock in Bellingham, sides so rotten you could push a pen through them - fast forward to Dennis Conner spending a million bucks to restore it, you never know.

  12. I think that it was Gloria Swanson's personal car. I saw it behind a shop in southern California and it was in rough shape. I wondered what the hell it was and researched it. It sure is gorgeous, now. I have a picture of it in the rough condition somewhere.

One of two bodied by Ghia. The one you have pictured is in the Blackhawk Collection and the one below is in the collection of the Petersen Automotive Museum. Both are claimed to have been Rita Hayworth's car. One truly was. Her husband purchased it off the stand at the Paris Auto Show.

(1948)* - This view of the Cahuenga Pass in 1948 shows one road of cars end to end.

  16. This kind of cars were called OTP's, which stands for "offener Tourer Polizei", which means ragtop police cruiser, to take out more than two officers out on the fresh air..;)

(1937)* - Three signs announce this open air Safeway market with a Spanish tiled roof located on 5509 Sunset Boulevard near Western. Die cut metal animals and farm scenes follow the roof line around and over of the rooftop sign which advertises "distribution without waste." Right below on the facade, a channel letter sign gives the same message, as do all of the awnings. In the parking lot a bulb sign with a wrought iron base, ringed with down lighting, rests on the lip of a zig zag concrete wishing well. Cars park facing the open wall of the market and produce is displayed prominently. Just behind the Safeway market on the upper right can be seen the sign board for the more modern Sam Seelig Market at 1515 N. Western.

  21. Another concept/prototype pic I found; info with it says "1954 GM XP21 Firebird"

"It'll Never Get Off The Ground
Though it hasn't got a name, this unusual auto is causing quite a stir in Wethersfield, England. US Air Force Lt. Col. Edward H. Risher seems to have carried the 'do-it-yourself' craze to extremes in this car. Beginning with a Ford Anglia chassis, Col. Hisher added, among other things, a cut-down Chevrolet hood, Austin Bantam wheels and rear windshield from an American Ford. The crowning touch, however, came in the form of two wing tanks from a Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star jet trainer."

  27. Glad you are enjoying the pics. I've been racking my memory trying to figure out it's location too. I'm thinking somewhere along Bridgeport Road and No.3. I'll ask one of my customers next week, he's worked for the city since it was a sandbar.
