What are those front wheels from? I love them. As far as my cars the '29 has flat paint but my Hudsons are both shiny one blue one black. The shiny paint is pretty old though.
I totaly am with you, shiney is the best. I'm really not sure when that idea got going of flat as a finish, was never the idea when I was a kid in the 1950's,hell primer was always just that, something that you used before it was good enough for the shiney, and every rod or custom was going to get shiney............yes a few didn't make it,so they did not have a finish on them before they got parked or junked, they did not look cool yet but were only getting there. Now at 70 years old I turly wounder were these misst the point ideas came from at times. There is a hole bubble all about how it was,but was not!
My El Camino is in a cheap Candy apple red paint. I call a sealer coat,, as i did not have the time to do the car right, and needed a place to store the trim so i wouldn't lose it. . It is a 20 footer at best considering I did hardly any body work. I just thought it was too pretty of a car to llok at in either primer, or the faded red and rust I got it in.
The wheels came from Craigslist, not sure what they are off of but its a Gm 5 on 4-3/4" and only cost $20.00 for both. Can't beat that price.
Back in the 60's here in rural Anderson,South Carolina there were a lot more hot rods that were in primer or had primer spots here and there than cars with nice shiny paint jobs, Most of the guys I knew drove their cars every day,,did repairs as they could and had it cleaned up the best they could for Saturday night cruising and a occasional race. Paint came along when everything else was done. HRP
My current ride is painted, but my last one was untouched patina just as it was the day i bought it. Personnaly I prefer the paint, nothing like a killer paint job and nice chrome/ stainless. After all the crome/stainless was what made me think all these cars/ trucks were so cool when I was a kid and was building model cars.
Heres mine before & after drove it 3 years in flat (hard to keep clean) my gal said we have to paint it when she saw the color on the dash kustom blend by the my painter in Bangor PA. we called it pickeld egg !!!!!!!! Frankie C 38sled
I like the idea of never being done and not having to worry about shopping carts. I do drive this car daily. Finish paint causes stress. Still on the fence.
I got a few more patch panels to weld in before I need to worry about either but if paint keep 'er off the road this summer then primer it is.
I****ume that once a vehicle that is primed and then driven, it needs to be sanded down and primed again before it can be painted?
Mine has original color from a resto and primer where I choped it. I think it is going to stay that way!
