This is going to be a long week now that the owner is having a procedure done at the hospital. He wants me to contact him Saturday after he gets home. What has me so uptight is that he wants to sell it to me ,but he will not tell me a price. His son told me to make him an offer, but I hate to do that. You never know what someone is thinking. He may take 500.00 for it :confused: He has a 51 Chevy P/U that he bought new and mentioned me working on it for him in return for the 32. If thats the case, then I would let the Chevy in my shop for a while! LOL!

If you can get him to throw a $$$ number at you up front that is real reasonable, have cash in your pocket and be prepared to load it in your truck on the spot. Bring a couple of strong friends that can help you tote the body.

Never make the first offer to a seller. They're selling-you're buying.

Trading labor for working on his 51 truck (easy to work on) may be a great deal for him. If someone else gave him several thou for the body, it doesn't get his truck running. He still has to take that $$$ and find a mechanic to work on the truck (at $75 hr.).

The problem with these "waiting" deals is that someone like the Son may mention the pending sale and suddenly some do good friend will "educate" them. Next thing you know, after a bit of internet research, the car is listed on ebay...

Has anyone had the coil springs added to the front axle like in the first pic that I got?

I talked to the son again yesterday and asked him if there was a grill for the car. He said that he found a piece of it a few years ago and threw it in the s**** pile.:(

A buddy of mine use to do that in the rear of some of his leaf sprung cars back in 69-72,(He was only 16-19 at the time)no clamping or anything, just wedge them in there. Needless to say one time he hit the railroad tracks at a little speed and one came bouncing out and dropped the car (I believe a 63 Comet if my memory serves me) on the tire.Pretty dangerous luckily the spring didn't hit anyone when it came bouncing out.

Those springs on the front are for keeping the weight transfered to the rear for max traction! "Country boy 90-10 drag shocks". History right there.

I know you're chomping at the bit to go get this thing, just let me know when you want to make the trip, I'm ready anytime. Couldn't have happened to a better guy.
You also need to come by and check out the F1 one day this week.

I appreciate everyones good words. I really do. I feel good about making a deal. I will definitely keep everyone posted. Honestly, I really want to talk a lot with him and potentially build the car in a similar manner as what he did. It had black and white interior and was red when he drove it to college. I just cannot make myself put a SBC in it if I get it, but I do have 3 potential candidates. Thanks again guys!

I'm beyond excited for you. And although I'm personally a fan of the SBC, I agree this one deserves something different. A nailhead or caddy mill maybe? Looking forward to the next "episode" in this saga!

    Good luck!

"IF" i get it , it will be a tough decision on engines. I have a 54 331 Hemi and a 51 Flathead to choose from. 331 is already at the machine shop being hot tanked, shotpeened, and magnafluxed. I may run a 260 SBF it my 30 Tudor. If I do,then the Hemi may be the choice.
