http://www.oregonpartsdirect.com/product_info.php?cPath=16&products_id=14691 Better or worse than homemade cliche bomber seats? I'm grasping at straws here, looking for ultra low-to-floor seats that are still comfortable and will fit in my pickup. Open to suggestions. Be honest. Let the abuse begin Aaron
Not sure. I was going to make my own or have something re-covered but I was feeling a bit lazy today and probably spent too much time justifying something tractor-ish in my head *feels shame*. Will keep looking. Aaron
Terrible! What kind of build are you doing? By that I mean, what era are you trying to go after? The bomber seat that is so common now really wasn't common outside of a few race cars after the war era. If your looking at more of a late fifties or early sixties type build, one of my favorites would back low back fiberglass shell type buckets that many sandrail and VW shops sell. Later than that, MG's and other small British sports cars had nice small adaptable seats, too.
Just went through the same rigmarole. I have 4 sets of seats sitting here... First I got some fiberglass racing seats, the kind with the high sides. I set one in the truck, sat in it and my ass was too big, got stuck. Had to finagle my way out with the seat still stuck to my rump. Then I got some dune buggy seats, upholstered plastic. The backs were too reclined and nixed the leg room. My truck is a Bantam, not much room to begin with. The I got some boat seats, those are promising but in the end I made a plywood base sitting on 2x4 rails and a thin plywood back up against the cab. You can't sit too low or your knees are up in the air.
Leather office chairs with the roller base and arms were removed... off eb@y for $15. They were designed to sit in for eight hours... looked great and you can find these damn things everywhere.
Most of my parts were available in 1960 or so. The riveted aluminum seat idea is just something I've always wanted to build, but you're right it would probably look funny. Maybe not so comfortable anyway. That said I'm not doing so good at following a theme. Just doing things and making decisions that make sense in my head. So if something looks like $hit I take full responsibility BTW the pickup is a 1930 channeled 4" and with a reversed firewall, so in^3 are in short supply Aaron
I have a middle bench out of an older caravan in my 33 pick up. I had to cut the mounts off and modify a bit. But it fits nice and is as low and far back as you could get and still be comfortable.
Yip they are pretty bloody ugly alright, I guess it all depends on how proud you are of your car cause I wouldn't be caught dead with those in any of my rides!! But beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess.
Bucket seats 1988 chevy pick! Comfortable ands they don't have a head rest! Check them out. Get them re-covered and they will look the part. Jay
No,his place is in Concord,North Carolina,,truthfully I don't think his seats would be in the same price range! HRP
Ok, that is pretty brilliant... I had an office chair in my truck for a little while, but it was mostly just to sit in and make engine noises.
These are from Summit or Jegs and are for old Jeeps they are not too bad looking and work pretty well for the money
Alluminum seat , make some like in a ww2 fighter plane. The Bonniville guys used war surplus seats...
Hey I saw those too, I actually like them except for the "B" logo, but I could get over it. Thanks. Aaron
