Nice work on the gaps Antti ! I am very jealus of the lincoln push buttons....someday the 47 will get a set....and the someday 36 too !
Thanks Steve! I think those Lincoln pushbutton repops are the first made in Finland parts in this project that i've bought instead of fabricating them by myself.I am glad i bought them, the quality is fine and the mounting is better than its on the original buttons. I dont know what kind of door latches 47's have, but it was pretty easy to get them working with 51' factory latches.
The 47 handles are twisted down to open, so I am sure I will have to use something a little more modern ? These doors have no guts in them I have to strip everything from some junk doors ..which I havent even looked at yet lol.
Okey, that changes the whole deal.I guess some latches from 60's or late 50's could work with you then, something that has a push button on the handle? So far i havent found a decent pair of bearclaws that works with pushbuttons,so i decided to stick with the factory latches.
Good to see some progress. Good to see (sorry to see?) you're having the same gap issues that I've been having. Haven't touched my car in 6 months but I'm hoping to get back at it, that's what I need to tackle.
Thanks Matthew! Well,i guess there is not much progress, but something.. I think those damn gap issues are pretty normal with these cars. What i've read, they were pretty awful from the factory,so what you can expect after 60 yrs. I guess i have a lot of fender/body slicing and gap filling with tig rods ahead. So,dont worry, you are not alone with these gap problems. This weekends plan is to go to Helsinki, there's a kustom show and after that i need to re-organize garage.I'll get some shelfs as a freebie,i have to pick them up and mess with them. So,no updates after this weekend.
Here is a bit off-topic update: The show was great, not the biggest one i've seen but a lot cooler than many bigger one in here.I met some familiar faces there, but also some guys who i havent seen never.Like this tall Dutch fellow in this pic: Most guys in here knows him as farmer12 and knows his cool 41' Plymouth coupe build too.It was nice to meet you Eric and your friends too! And the shorter,hobo-looking a-hole on the right is me..
Well, at least you're a clean-cut Hobo. And I think most of us would be shorter standing nect to Eric.
It was certainly good to meet up with you Antti! I can tell you guys, this is one dedicated hot rodder/customizer, and an overall awesome guy! We(Bart and I) had a great time. Last pic also shows Bart and I with the ugliest girls we could find at the show.
Eric, it was nice to meet you in person. We spoke a little before I had to catch up my family. Antti is sure a cool hobo...I mean dude.
Thanks guys,it was nice to meet you all there.I didnt do a shit for my project, but i think this was pretty cool weekend. The show was great, with cool stuff and cool people. Btw.those "butt-ugly bitches" are advertising new car mag called Amerikan rauta, the American iron.My friends Lincoln was featured while go in that mag. At today i borrowed my bro's van again and picked up the shelfs. They looks like some indrustial stuff, made of steel and the best part with them was that they were completely free.Hopefully i will get some room to the garage with them. I guess its good to have spring clean up at this point.
At the same issue was that Impala which I painted couple a years ago. I didn't know it until I bought the mag... Seems like a cool magazine.
Years ago? I thought it was some fresh paint job from you.And yes,its a cool mag.Lot cooler than the "other" finnish car mag, which has been going downhill for yrs...
Update: Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot,whatta hell happend to the wheel well? It sure looks like pretty beat up and the lower part is pretty bad too. I bought a leather shotbag few yrs ago for stuff like that,so its hammer time again I still dont have a planishing hammer in my possession, but friend of mine was kind and let me use his planishing hammer. Thanks,Harri! After planishing i made some test fitting and rolled a bead too.I havent done much work with the planishing hammer, but i guess its better than the old one was.. I cut the extras off the replacement piece and welded it The wheel opening lip is missing but i'll make it with shrinker/stretcher. I guess i have to test fit the new quarter panel to get the wheel opening lip aligned correctly.
Nice fabrication Antti. I didn't realise that the wheel well was so bad.......or did you have too many beers while holding a hammer?
Bwah wah, Antti, took a little moment 'til i got it, but after serving on a german submarine 20 years ago, i finally got it: whisky-tango-foxtrott! great joke, dude! if you 're ever in need of some help in decoding morse codes or leading quarter panels, doors, or straightn'g out some dents out of your roof, letg me know. i'll give Eric and Per a call and we're around your place! would be so nice! ...ya know, the HAMB-Hillbillies, as to call, hope they're in! but i'm sure they are! and you is one of 'em! whaddaya think? Cheers, Carsten just a thought, let's found 'em...
Well, last 3 days i've been on antibiotics because my damn wisdom tooth, the dentist said that you will feel really awful if you drink with this drug...So, someone else has been totally hammered while hammering that wheel well I guess that wheel well hammering has something to do with quarter panel damage that has happened long time before i got the car. Well,i havent invented that term, but same sentence came to my mind(mitä vittua in finnish)when i realised how messed up the wheel well was. I guess leading job with fellow hambers could be cool, but there is a lot to do before that. Thanks for the offer
Been in the trade for 40 yrs and never seen a wheel well beat up like that before. Old cars are full of surprises aren't they.
Yeah, they can be surprising sometimes, but i think i am getting out of surprises with this one, luckily
I would guess it suffered a major tire blowout and the PO took their time pulling over to the side of the road.
My theory is that it was t-boned to the back section of the drivers side quarter. There was a line of holes on the quarter panel on the same spot than the wheel well. That dent was pulled out by mounting a dent puller on those holes. It was so bad hit that the wheel well started rubbing with tire and it was fixed with sledge hammer, after several "assembly" beers.Lower part of the quarter was replaced too,it looks like an old repair work and there was lead too on that spot. It could be cool to know the history of this car.I know only that it sat on the field around 40 yrs.My daily drivers are usually over 20 yrs old POS,so it is possible that this car has lowest miles of the cars i have owned so far
