I'm in love with the cars those guys build.

  7. Display pieces? They don't display. They profile. You have got to be kidding me. Your mancard has been revoked and terminated effective immediately.

It's the people that come to garage night that make it such a great time , thanks to all who made it this year despite the " LIITLE " snow storm.
Mr. Bones had such a good time and drank so much of Mayor Dennis's " GREEN SLIME " he took Randy's roadster out for a JOY RIDE the next day.

  10. Now I know why Mr BONES was always smiling at me every time I was in the back room where he sat in Randy's roadster. But it was probley for the best as I would have had to put Gary to bed if he would have had more Green Slime to drink.

Here's a few phone photos from the weekend...

The primered 3W belongs to Tom McIntyre, who has some truly great cars in his collection, like the Williams Bros '29 roadster, Mickey Thompson's Z06 '63 Sting Ray and Mark Donohue's Sunoco/Penske '68 Camaro. His coupe is awaiting paint.

Had a great time back there, again! Got to see some cool shops on "Jim's Shop Tour" Drank way to much shine and came away with a fat donation for RMH at Stanford. Thanks again TOM. Looking forward to next trip to the Bone Works.

Is it the camera angle or is Mr. Bones in a long door version of the 28-29 Roadster?

It's the angle however we did recess the seats back tops into the rear firewall between the cockpit and trunk , The hood is stretched a couple inches and the wheelbase is 108" .

Rolling Bones car's are awesome, these guy's chop the roof on coupes and make em look fast just sitting there, I have a friend who built a speed 33 and it is beautiful, but his car is too nice, his car owns him, I keep sending him pics of hot rods on the salt flats, he says he only likes pepper, I just love windin his watch. Question for Keith or Ken, I noticed the pic of the black 32 coupe, what type of paint did you use on that car, I am trying to get that look on my 66 chevelle replica nascar I am building, any help would be great, thank for sharing ,tintop:D

According to the "experts", all you have to do is lean on the buffer a bit longer - ain't that right Ken...?

man, some cool rods come out of that shop. They have "the look" that back yard builders like me can only aspire to match.

We use lacquer with varying amounts of flattener as a top coat with additional preparation underneath depending on the look we are trying to achieve . The 32 has only a little wear and an overall feel of a well preserved 50 year old lacquer paint job while with the 29 we were trying for paint that was tested with years of waging war on the dry lakes and Bonneville along with the elements of time and the sun.
As far as backyard builders goes we hope that we fit right in . Its those builders who made the " LOOK " it's the 1-800-send-it shops who try to capitalize on it.

I noticed that you fellows have the Excelsiors on some of your cars,I just bought a set. Noticed that your sidewalls don't look as "busy" as mine.
Whats the best way you have found to shave the lettering off,and do you run tubes in them?
    Thanks

Your right they have a ridicules amount of lettering on them . We put a tube in them and inflate them so the letters are up on the highest point then use a belt sander at a 90 to the tire ( keep it moving ) then we finish them with a DA with 80 , 100 and 120 grit again keep it moving .also we do the entire tire not just the letters so as to give them a uniform look .
They are tube type so we run them with tubes and they are ALMOST round not as good looking as the square Firestones but safer at high speeds. Not that we ever go over the speed limit

  24. Ken, Have you guys had any failures with the Excelsior's? I figure you guys would have some good feedback on them since you drive them as opposed to displaying them!! Dale Ha!

So far they have been good , at first they had inspection stickers inside which caused the tubes to fail after a few thousand miles.
Now they come with a warning to remove the stickers. They are not perfect but run better than the firestones .
To us they are a compromise , they have an ugly tread design but are the right size and shape .

Hey Bones, thanks for reply, I was trying to purchase flattening agent for the 3 gallons of dupont imron that I have purchased, but the supplier says not available, so I will have to wing it , or f--- it up, I can't buy laquer paint here in canada, and I sures the hell I ain't goin try and smuggle it across the border. They don't like it when we even bring the good weed spray ,they will slap your pee pee , maybe I will try a little creative mixing and test it , anyhow thanks a bunch 66 tintop:D:D:D
