So, I opened the new R&C that came yesterday, came to Rob's editorial . . . and THERE IS KOOLKEMP!! Or, at least, there was Steve's avatar. Cool. That pic will always be you (to us HAMBers) Steve!

Your snow view out of the shop is tempered by the old iron covered by snow. Not a fan of winter either, but much better your way than mine. Keep us updated, and very nice work.

I suppose that even after cutting 1/4 on the coil vent, there was many holes left. The metal seems really thin there.
Did you managed to fill everything just by welding or did you have to use lead to fill ?
In fact, since the day I had my car, I wonder about this place for the day I ll begin starting on it .
Its coil vent is worse than yourse :)

Crashed and rolled while being towed on a trailor. Really crumpled 'er up. And then it sat for years. But it's cool that it finally got fixed and returned to it's originally customized form. Neat too, that so many different customizers of the time had a hand in its creation.

Haha I guess I will have to pick up this issue! I cant even remember where I got the pic , but the dream truck has always been a favorite of mine, not so much for the style of the truck but for its story, the way it was built ,the destruction then the discovery and restoration!

No other holes after I was done Nali, all welded ,all steel, if it had been any worse I would have made a hammer form to make a whole new opening..

I have that issue somewhere, there was a great story in R&C or maybe HotRod, in the late 70's ? about the start of the restoration.

My favorite aspect of this iconic custom ,the story!

Lol Russian , thats awesome!! I am gonna have to print it out at work to hang up in the shop :D

Not too much exciting going on but progress none the less...

Deciced to do a small notch in the frame...might not need it but its alot easier to do now...

I also mocked up some lowering blocks...they may increase or decrease a bit in size depending on where the ride height is at when I get the body back on the frame....

Cleaned up and boxed the tranny crossmember brackets too..

Cleaned up and boxed in the front of the frame and the hole I cut to keep the mechanical fuel pump...

Finished up the rear bumper mounts on the frame..

I decided to pull the front springs out to clean up the spring pockets on the lower arms....then I decided maybe I should just take them off, so after more grinding/sanding/metalprep & primer this is where I am at...

I finished up pretty much all of the seam sealing ( when the body has this many scars theres alot to do ) I have the front half of a rusty g body frame that was given to me, front end was re built but never driven so I am hoping to get all the ball joints from that removed this weekend so I can soon put the front end back together, that clip is so rusty when I was checking it out yest I noticed the spring seat on one of the lower control arms was so rotten the spring went right through it and was resting on the ground lol!

I will have to take a pic of it, man shit rots bad here! Back has been ok, I know when to stop, but the tendonitis in my elbow is still causing me lots of grief , it was so sore after fri night in the shop it kept me up till 5 am, from taking all the rusty siezed hardware aprt on the front suspension !

The end of me you mean Fitz? Lol!

I havent decided if it needs it or not...its less than 2" ,but I probably should... I havent really stopped playing around been gettin some good time in just not much stuff to take pics of, the wife is working nights so I only have the weekends to get some time in...

Re the Dream Truck: It may not be well known just how the accident happened. Spence Murray spilled the beans with this tidbit tucked into a 1967 R&C tire article:

Man alive you guys have some rust issues up there, I'm assuming it's the road salt! It's bad enough down here, but nothing like that!! How's the weather up there? Mike.

Sadly it's not just road salt.
We are on/in the ocean so we get major salt air too.
And when it's foggy.. it's salt fog.

Having said that... it's a beautiful area. :)

    Steve... you da man.

  29. I haven't checked in for a while. Congrats on finding the 36, or is oldtimers disease kicking in?
