The cars that had this option often had an optional compass located in the dash where the clock would ordinarily have been. The 66 Chevelle is currently being restored by a buddy in Ohio back to showroom specs. Another buddy got a 66 out of our boneyard and is building a replica of the car as it is in the photo. Cool to run across it here.

 

They did not outlaw torqueflite Transmission. What they did outlaw was reving engine up to 5,000 or higher and droping it into low gear, because this was the likely outcome.

They were also a factory or dealer
installed option on early and
mid'50's Chryslers and DeSotos too.
I don't know about the GM or any
other(?) OEM versions, but the Chrysler
and DeSoto verions used a self-winding
clock made by the - at the time - very
upscale, and high-fashion - "Ben Rus"
watch company.
