When I was 16 years old, I had a Nissan 300zx. I know... I know... And I guess I could tell you all where to stick your pitch forks at this point, but lets keep it civil. It was what it was... And I loved that sleek little Japanese wonder of speed. I...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
Dude, ya' just gave me goosebumps... Edited ta' add: My first real car as a snotty nosed 16yo was a '57VW Type 1 w/ a 356C Porsche engine n' a Type 3 trans...
oh the humble roots of our fearless leader. i guess in this particular instance it is safe to admit...there is a 280zx in my grandmothers garage waiting for another day...excellent visual imagery as always boss.
I, too, was guilty of street racing when I was a teen, most of us were. Growing up in SoCal didn't help, it was just something that you had to do. My street racing career started and ended long before yours but I guess we all had our "Mustang's" to deal with, although most of us didn't have a trump card waiting in the wings. We just licked our wounds and went on. Anyway, I'm glad that you were able to finally beat your "Mustang". As far as the legality, I always subscribed to the theory that "it wasn't illegal if you weren't caught". Great story, Ryan...
Wwell some of my most memorable spankings have come at te hands of some old fart in a car that could not possibly win. Cool story and even better pics, thanks.
You've waited this long to tell us this story?!?!? hat else have you been keeping from us... That had to be an ear-to-ear grin for sure...
300z's, Mustangs, Camaro's......I thought I accidently logged into "Dogfight".... Seriously though, I think we have all had a fantasy like that. Where we finally beat the one guy who always seems to beat us no matter what we were doing, even at things other than cars. And I'm sure most of us didn't have a Dad as cool as yours sounds to help us!! AWSOME STORY!!
The hope here is that my dad sees this story and elaborates on it... AND that my mom does NOT see it as I don't know that either of us could stand the ass kicking that would surely come.
First car was a pinto with a solid lifter 302, c-4 and 4.10s. Lost alot, but won a few. It was a tough area. Super Gas, 300ZX's and 5.0 liter mustangs didnt exist when I was a teenager. It doesnt happen around here anymore, and I am too old to hang around deserted industrial parks till 3am, but real, serious Street racing is still the flat-out biggest rush I have EVER found.
I thought I was the only one who street raced in a Datsun. only car I ever took to the track even though I lived 5 miles from fremont Drag Strip. 17.70 @77MPH. shifted at 7000RPM that night. had a lot of fun in that little truck.
Had a couple moments with dad similar to this. We don't need to worry about my mom tho.............she once did the same as you with dads factory racecar, to buy diapers and food for me! Click on my sig, hard not to get in a race driving THAT billboard. And she won
Great story! Also, love the black and white photos of street racing in 1950's L.A. Coincidentally, there's an article in the February 2013, Fraternal Order of Police Journal titled, "10 Greatest Cop Cars". The first car discussed in the article is the 1955 Buick Century 68, which the California Highway Patrol chose to "keep up with the state's burgeoniong population of hot rods and sports cars". Oh, how I'd love to have one of these parked in my garage today!
Did a lot of street racing, but you are correct. You can go faster on the track! My best time , in a Chevelle we drove there and home, was 10:70 at 122 at old Irwindale. Lots of good times. You have a cool Dad.
ahhh the memories! My high school car was a wheelie standing 1969 Mustang! Did a lot of street racing with that car! You could cruise main street any night of the week and race until the sun came up! This was in the early 8o's in North Dakota mind you! Big block Chevelles with tunnel rams, Cudas with blowers, 6 pack Roadrunners, big block Mustangs, Torino's. Those were the days!!
