Exactly the type cooler I'm planning on. Gonna by-god vote this thread up a star. Good info.

Edit: My "Good" vote didn't move the needle. Couldn't do "Excellent" out of respect for Ryan.

Reason i'm askin bout the lockup is, i got the TCI on mine, it is dificult to "make it lock up" in 4+O/D. It is easier to tell by unlocking it with my manual switch. Everything has to be just rite for it to lockup. Vacuum is a must, and your going pretty fast by the time it locks up. If you play with the throttle, it won't lockup. If you have too much duration/overlap on the camshaft, it won't lockup correctly. Also after i got mine back from rebuild, it didn't shift rite until i hammered on it WOT through all shifts, i guess it had lube in some places and had to be blown out to shift. If you dont have a vacuum switch, then IDK.

Locking up the TQ does not effect if it shifts or not into 4th gear. Good info, but If you have the TCI kit and are experiencing a "hunting" for lock up, pull the supplied vac switch, locate the cast tit on the back side. With a very small drill bit by hand twist on the tit until it reveals the adjustment screw. Rotate the screw counterclockwise to reduce the timing of when the lock up happens ie vacuum.

I was speaking about lockup, 4th is a gear. Thanks for reminding me about the adjustment. It don't really bother me that bad, just doesn't hit lockup like another gear.

Glad to know it has been of some benefit to you.
Yes, I always like to read threads with some follow thru, kinder finishes it off rather than leaving you there just scratching your head and wondering how things actually turned out.

Im running Bowtie overdives lockup kit, locks the convertor up when it hits 4th gear via pressure switch. I havent had any problems with it except during a long run across texas the cheapy relay they provide crapped out. stuck a peice of wire in place till i made it to a town and bought a heavy duty relay. working like a champ ever since.

Yeah, you would think they would give you a decent relay since the cost between the lousy one and a decent one is hardly much difference.
I got caught the same way but with a thermo fan kit on a hot day.

With my T700R4 lockup sensor switch, I've put a heat shield over my exhaust pipe to hopefully help extend the sensors life, similarly I've added heat shield on my otherside exhaust pipe to protect my Lokar shifter indicator module.

Hey sorry it took so long to get back here, had to go and get a new hearing aid today, damn, "hotrods and hearing aids".

I have the Rebal Wire lockup kit, it locates a pressure switch in the 4th gear servo cover, so that when the trans kicks into 4th, the servo is pressurized and that triger the switch to provide current and turn on the lockup. Like I said earlier, haven't had a 4th gear shift yet.

I fooled around with it quite a bit, several runs 10 miles away from home, and I've stood on her pretty good a few times, 5 grand in third gear once. I've also run it up quite a few times on the jack stands. No 4th.

It sounds like there is possibly something wrong with your tranny or maybe you are not picking up the O/D setting with your selector.

Yes I have checked the adjustment of the linkage, and it is correct. I'm thinking there is something missassembled in the vlv body, a stuck vlv in the vlv body, something along that line.

As I said earlier, the trans was rebuilt as a side job, and now the builder doesn't seem very interested in making it right. My friend is the guy in the middle, and I don't want to put pressure on him. I'll just get another trans if something doesn't happen pretty soon. I fooled around most of last summer waiting for a guy to cut my glass, I won't be waiting this year.

There is a spring and plinger arrangement at the other end of your cable.
I was instructed to pull it out and replace the spring inside as apparently they can go a little soft over time.

I am total unaware of what all this does but if you could ask around it maybe worth swapping this spring if it has any influence on picking up O/D.

Be way cheaper and easier than taking out the whole tranny to do this as a last ditch check/adjustment.

May I also suggest with such a problem it maybe worth starting a new thread to attract the attention of some of the auto tranny guys on the HAMB who may chime in.

Use an appropriate title so you will get the right guys looking.
There are some well knowledged guys out there.
