Thanks guys I love the gold. I decided I'll pull the shoebox motor trial fit it into the HJ then paint it and put it back into the shoebox after it's painted gold. Engine bay white?

I'll be seeing your ride later today with Tyler and the Boss! I'm super excited to see it. Mine won't make it this year. But next year for sure.

What did you use to remove the paint?

Screwdiver sandpaper wire wheel and a whole lot of elbow grease! I tried stripper but it just laughed at me and made a mess! I was about to give up but had extra time when my son Tyler got sick and couldn't start a huge project. Had to keep busy during nap time some how. Gold flake paint is thinner than water!

Been plugging away on the little things while I wait for my mandrels to get here to mold in the side pipes. Stupid kid tried to steal my Zombies CC plaque off the back. Fixed the front spalsh pan what a pain in the ass. It never fit well so I hammered it out and now it fits so much nicer. Its funny how much different it fits now. I use to have to put all the bolts in and tighten everything down just for it to fit like crap. I'll primer it tomorrow since it's going to be 81' out in SOCAL!

WHATS YOURS GUYS THOUGHTS ON MOLDING IN THE REAR SPLASH PAN?
it has a roll pan on it now and the splash pan I had looked like it was beat with a rock. I have it fixed as much as I want to go before I decide if I want to mold it in or bolt it on.
    IMG_3665.JPG
It's bolted on with three bolts but fits pretty well minus a few spots that need some work to make it fit a little better. This view made me decide to do the 49 chevy front license plate guard.
    IMG_3666.JPG
Moved it up from the stock location also it has the seams shaved.

Are you going to mold in the front one?

Nope not molding in the front one but did shave the two side seams. I had to cut the two ends off bang them out and reweld them on anyways to fix the fit. I do like the look when the front splash pan is molded in but hate the fact that the whole front end has to come off in one piece. I'm a one man show so I have to be able to do things by myself till Tyler gets old enough to help!

I'm kind of a "balance" person. Like if the headlights are frenched, the taillights should be too (or vice versa). I figure if the rear valance is molded in, the front should be too. That said, I'm probably going to be a bit hypocritical in my own build in that I'm cleaning up the trunklid (like you've done) but will probably keep the stainless molding on the hood. Or not. Haven't completely decided on that one yet.

I was planning on running the stainless on the front till I saw my car in a B&W picture and kind of think of it like this: the rear is shaved and real smooth, sides are shaved and real smooth then get to the front hood not smooth not shaved except emblem. I am running the 50 Meteor hood ornement that is super nice and feel bad for changing my mind but I just think hood needs to be peaked. I might change my mind about keeping it.

The flake looks best at dusk or full sun. I love the color. The roof is going to be the same flake. I had the paint color matched to the flake so even when you look close you can't see the paint behind it that easy. I hate when you see a flake job and it will have a different color behind it.

Added a piece of metal where pipe is by rocker. Still have to figure out if I'll end it shapewise. either angled or round. Also if I am going to add round bar to end.

I like them pipes... a bologna slice on the end would look pretty cool with that chrome lake pipe sliding out of it.

I tried holding round bar up and I'm just not crazy with round bar with it flat.

There was a shoebox coupe built in Detroit around 61-63 that I am going for a loose clone of. My picutres of it got ruined when the basement flooded at my mom's so I have to do it by memory now. It had lake pipes but not molded in and it's was triple lakes but I hate the triples. Thanks for the Ideas!
