O' come on Boom! No matter how you slice it, these crazy looking things are much cooler looking than the Autolite 2100s. Besides, I couldn't find a match for under 100 bucks.

  3. Are those nicknamed towering inferno or fire starters or something like that
Them old teapots are different looking for sure.

I am kinda scared. These things are pretty damn crazy. But man are they gonna be nasty looking. I WILL get them to run and go- for sure, Got 130 bucks in manifold 2 carbs and a China Distrib. The plot thickens. Put ram on today. Take some picks

Nice post wizard. From the research I have been doing on ram intakes and runner length you give good advise. What I have come up with is for low RPM torque use a long, skinny diameter runner with small plenum, for high RPM torque use short, large diameter runner with large plenum.

With a long, small runner and small plenumn I think you can run a smaller carb and get good performance but with a big carb you will over carb it. With a short, fat runner and big plenum you will need a big carb and a small carb will choke it out.

hey porkchop i'm working on a tr for a 350 in a 78 z28 i'm building it on a stand first anyway I don't remember where I got it but someone was talking about making the plenum smaller using a marine grade epoxy to fill in the extra space I got an extra plenum off sleezebay so if I screw it up I still got the original one. i'll probably run 2 500 eddys although that seems like a lot. everybody talks about cfm not that its not important but I beleave it has to be a total deal in a nutshell this is what ive come across bear in mind this is very general and for my application 350cu. in. can be 30 over or stock I think a 327 would work to. min compression 9.5to1 max 10.5 to 1 also bear in mind this is for the street not racing heads 195's or 202's polished at home eastwood has a good kit and I think harbor freight does too match your intake to your heads . and most important cam something like an rv cam that makes tons of torque and vacuum with very little overlap use the least carb you can get by with . maybe 1 5/8 heaqders i'm not sure on that yet i'm still gathering info i'm running a weiand 1984 and a Saginaw 4 speed and long straight runners over short fat ones

You are on the right track dey59. Here's a pic ca 1970 of my old t-bucket running a 337 with a TR1 intake and two small vacuum secondary Holleys. I forgot the carb sizes - maybe 600? - but it was very tractable at low speeds and ran 10.36 @ 133 mph at the drags. Rather than fill the plenum I drilled and tapped the rear corners of the plenum box and used main jets as an air bleed and most importantly, a place for raw gas to drain out when the engine was turned off.

Another recent 2 x 2 conversion from a single Holley was on my RPU with an inline six, using two small 1.02 Autolites for a total equivalent 4V flow of around 340 cfm. The six powered RPU runs 2.47 rear end gears! and turns 11 second quarter mile times.

  14. I actually had a pair of them on my first 2x4 in about '70. They can be good carbs, but they were droolers when they were not right. One back fire and babam you were cooking with gas. Hence the name towering inferno or something like that. We always called them Tea Kettles.

I don't think you have much choice of power valves, but a lot of guys who are serious run them power valve delete. You can still get rebuild parts for them and jets, if you can't find a jet big enough jet reams work real well ( I have a set in my tool box). Like everything else there is a learning curve to jet reams and tuning in general.

Anyway like I started out to say my first 4x4 had a pair of those tea kettles on it. I learned how to tune them and they worked real well until I could swing a pair of Carters and adapt them to the intake.

  15. Just to clarify Holley did make a 650 2 bbl for circle track cl***es that required a 2 bbl carb, I guy named Doerty ( sp?) used to trick them out and sell them new. I don't know if they still make them. they do still sell the 500 cfm carb new.

If we are talking this intake I am not sure that 1000 cfm will keep the plenum full. I may go with larger carbs and jet them accordingly.

At one time, I had two 390 cfm Holley's that looked like the old 1850 carb. One was off a '73/'74(?) F-600 361" big truck and the other off a '75, F-750, 391" engine.

A guy I used to knows Step Son stole the ****ers!

great pic of your t bucket flyer it looks like fun. i'm also looking into running 2 4bl q jets I've seen articles that they would be way more responsive at lower rpms. but they might be harder to tune for me anyway that's why I like the 500 eddys

I highly recommend the smallest possible carbs if you are going to be driving it on the street. Otherwise you will have a weak vacuum signal in the venturiis and tip-in response will be ca ca. 700cfm total should be more than enough for a small block.

I plan on using two Autolite 2100 2bbls on a AMC 343 V8. Intake is an Offenhauser 2x4 and I'm using Offenhauser adapter plates. We'll see!!

The only way to make that box work right was to jack it up and drive a new one under it.
