  7. Nope, Portland - the signs still point to Seattle (I-5) from downtown Portland, just like I-5 in Seattle has Portland signs.

    Can anyone here explain the use of paving a street with Wood as in the scene of Seattle Washington jus now ?

  10. I think they called it wood block paving - lots of sawmills around and it was pretty fast and cheap. Not really done that way anymore...

  13. I'll take a stab at it. Once upon a time timber was often used to fill in the spaces between railroad trackage. It may still be used in places at R.R. crossings. Incidently, those tracks in the pics were all removed in the 50's and the Alaskan Way viaduct was built directly above. Now the viaduct is scheduled to be dismanteled. That is the Seattle waterfront and the street is built on tidelands filled in with material from hills of Seattle that were regraded down in the early 20th century. There are the bones of old ships buried in there too, just like San Francisco.

    Yes, 99W sends you North to Seattle from Portland and 26 sends you West to the coast. A map search will confirm it's Portland.
