I have had a hard time picturing this color combo, mostly because of the odd orange color....so, I bought a diecast car and tried it out. Disregard the wheels, please, it's the only thing I could find at the truckstop....

I received 3 gallons of this orange for free, but it's more pale than I had in mind, hence the test. This is called "bright caramel" a ford color from the early 80's, and I went with ford wimbelton white for the roof and quarter's, thinking it would visually "brighten up" the orange. I kind of like it, my wife wants me to go charcoal or black on the two tone color....

It's all going on this car...

I know it's a post car with ugly wheels but the colors look good to me. HRP

  10. Well I don't like it at all, would you save me a little bit of the orange. Like a gallon or a half gallon? It will look good with the black I intend to shoot on a project I have here. :D

I think that if I were going to use that orange I would prefer a cream instead of a stark white. But it is just a personal thing for me and the way that I see colors probably.

I'm surprised I haven't gotten any comments about panel alignment and cutting and buffing the paint on my car...wow, the HAMB is gentle today....Thanks for the response guys. Like I said, I do kind of like it, my wife doesn't...but she follows up with a " but it's your car" disclaimer. The only thing I know for sure is this, I will not add to the number of red and white 55 chevies...not that there's anything wrong with that.....

I like it. I think the white brightens up the orange, I think cream would add a paleness to it.

I like orange. Yours is a little soft, but still nice. I like the idea of a bright, or hard white to punch up the orange. Do you really like the color, or is it just good enough, since you got a deal on the paint? You're going to have to live with it for a while, so don't settle for a color just because it saves some money. I would definitly not go with black or charcoal, and agree with no red.

Is it the right color because it's free? If you really like the color then paint it.
As long as you're asking,go a little darker.

Honesty is the best policy, right? Not feeling it at all. Like Benno said, you could try it with a tan tinted white, like maybe Ford Wimbleton white, but honestly, I just dont see it being the right choice for your car. How about if the other color was a metallic brown? Orange on top, brown on the bottom? Still not really feeling it, but maybe better than the orange and white. Any photoshop guys lurking this thread?

No disrespect intended in the least...but personally, I don't care for it. Looks like a creamsicle to me. But I'm not fond of orange at all. In fact, I prefer darker "tougher" looking colors. Even with red, I prefer it darker...more maroon. I think the lighter colors often give a car a "toyish" look. It's just personal preference...that's all. It's good that we all have different tastes. If it was me, and that was the paint I had to use, I'd do an experiment. Take a little of the orange paint and try adding maybe some red?...black?...other?...to darken it up. I think your wife has the right idea to use black as the complimentary color...maybe even the main color. Overall, it'll darken the whole car...the orange would now be the lighter/brighter color.

    Btw...your gaps ****...lol. Just kiddin'.

I side with Porky, A cream color like Shoreline Beige or Vanilla will look better than bright white.

That is wimbelton white on the roof and quarters....I guess the brown background in the photo's mask that a little.

One of the reasons I brought up the idea of charcoal is that I've always liked the factory coral/grey combo in 1955, but to me it isn't a "hot street car" color combination...if that makes sense...and that happens to be why I'm on the fence with this particular orange color as well....I'm thinking of taking a gallon down to my local body guy and adding some red toner to it to make the orange "pop" a little bit more...

Maybe someone with photo shop skills could show you some different colors to go with the carmel, like a light brown or cream, and maybe something out of the box. I do like your combo though.

  22. Charcoal or black has been done....
I'm with ****** also, about the cream. Can you take a gallon to the paint folks and have a touch of black added to it? I'd like it ever so little darker.... I'm all for two tone though.

I'd be more worried about the wife's disclaimer. Had plenty of those to find they bite me on the a... later one.
I think the colour is great - I love the white and I can see CREAM COLOUR MAKING A GREAT MATCH TOO. You're in a fortunate position of having modern day facilities to check the colour out on the model or photoshop to check what it looks like in reality

I like it...but take a few photos out in direct sunlight. Indoor/fluorescent lighting can alter the way a color looks. Tan/Cream would be way too dark for such a light color IMHO, Wimbledon White was a good choice.

I like it, but I think it's look good with a carmel/black two tone too.

I would get a re-tint on the paint too, maybe something towards "hugger" orange.
