Where exactly is this 23 measurement taken? my coupe front end is up on jack stands right now, so can't just go out to try and figure this out. I am guessing the center of the tire opening on the fender.
Taken at the axle center line vertically to the fender lip. Take a yardstick and measure straight up from the ground through the center of hubcap to the arch of the fender opening. Hope this makes it clear....
One thing for 37 to 40 people to think about. Swapping in a 35 - 6 wishbone will allow the use of a 32 to 36 axle. 1. more new axle options 2. or more drop from stock axle 3. 40 spring still works
My 39 has a 4" superbell dropped axle with posie's superslider spring and chassis eng rear setup.( the bad)cars in storage cant measure for you till April
Thanks, that's about what i thought. I'll measure mine just out of curiousity when it's back on the ground. I know it's as low as i would want it.
mine sits 23 1/2" and 26 1/2" with 6" at the chin .225/70/15 and 195/65/15.planning to go to 185/65/15 and 225/75/15
How low is too low? Front 23.5 Back 25.5 and chin 5.5” I have 185-70 R14 up front with a Mustang II with drop spindles and 215-70 R 15 out back. If they build a speed bump on the last street in my sub that doesn’t have one, I'm screwed. And yes the R stands for r@*!@L.
I used a hiedts mustang 2 crossmember with 2" dropped spindles and used a posies low ride rear parallel spring kit. I know the mustang isn't traditional but my buddy gave it to me for free so!!!!!!!!!
You should have about 4" clearance NSRA If you dont care how you get there. I have Heights IFS, narrowed a arms, all tires are the same 205/70/15 26" front, Rear is CE kits with Granada 8" rear 205/70 /15 tires because of 2.78 gears. the back mesasures 27 1/2" If you have a flathead the pan sits very low, haveing a c4 trans it just fit with no floor cutting.I don,t have to worry about the back country roads.
I am not there yet, but i think my game plan is to do the front spring first, then go with a 4" dropped axle, tube shocks and f1 front brakes. THen out back go with a Posie stack, lower that a tad....15" wheels all around 185 or 195 in the front 235/75 rears. I like a lotvof sidewall showing. The reason i want to start with the spring in because of what 39ford sent me if he got that look with just a spring, i am all over that,he has a beautiful car.
Mine is lower than the above recommendations but the front doesn't hit unless you area going too fast and bottom out. The front measures 22 1/2 and the rear is 25 1/2. I think the car sits great but to each their own when stance is a concern. My tire sizes are 175/14 and 235/15 70 series. I keep an extra chin ready to go like Bedford does.
My preference to lower an early Ford is to go with the tried and true 4" dropped axel. it's a bit of work, but then, new kingpins and other steering hardware at the same time is always a great investment in time and dollars. 4TTRUK
Stu, how did you get there, and what size are your tires. that is an excellent stance Paul, thx for the pix I hope when I get my car on the road I can visit.
We like em low to, but sometimes I wonder. 26 in the rear, 22 in the front, 3 at the chin. 235/70/15 & 185/70/14. 20,000 miles 3 chins and this time its going to take a grille to.
My coupe measures 24" in the front and 26" in the back. 165/80/15's in the front, 235/70/15's out back. I've got a dropped '40 axle, split '40 bones and reversed eye spring.
Here is a picture of "39Ford's" ride what a nice car, he was kind enough to send me some pix. I post this here with his permission. thanks for sharing, nice '39.
This front fender measurement thing is silly. There's no written or unwritten rule. Just do whatever makes your car look the way you want it to look.
I agree. I measured mine, out of curiosity. It sat a little lower, running 14" wheels on the front, but I never cared for the way that the 14"s looked on the front. When I put the Americans on it, I went with 15"s, and am much happier. The added benefit is that I don't smack the chin near as often.
