Anybody have recomendations for a shop that can build up a journal and re-machine it? I would prefer something close to Memphis, but would consider other shops as well. Hoping to find somebody that does decent work for a decent price.
That was my first thought. If it is a rare crank that might be worth doing ,but on a commonly available crank I would imagine the cost of building it up with weld then turning it would surpass buying a replacement. Don
There is a really good shop in the Milan/Atwood area that I can't remember the name of right now, but I'll find out if you need me to. Also might try Tucker's in Murray,Ky.
Ah, that makes sense. Don You might want to stay away from this one: http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/crankshaft-specialist-memphis-tennessee-c429782.html
Crankshaft Specialist in Memphis. None better for any crank work. If you want it stroked they do that and anything you want. Hope this helps Hud
I've heard several people say to stay away from them. They used to be great, but have a bad reputation recently.
It has been a few years. My son had one done by them and it was super work. He had a crank stroked, balanced, and chromed. It was not cheap, but it was very good work. It was a 308 Hudson crank. Hud
Bullet Cams does crankshafts also. They've done couple of cams for me and are great to work with.. Their phone number is 662-893-5670
There is somebody up in Memphis that is a crankshaft crook and has been for 30+ years. You send your crankshaft in, then they tell you it is cracked or junk, not fixable, and do you want to have them send it back (on your nickel). You say to them "naw, keep it if it is junk". Then your "junk" crankshaft is sold to someone else as a top notch piece. Great scam for a long time. Look on some of the other hot rod or race sites, plenty of bad news. Not sure of the name and not want to bring woe on the wrong guys (or maybe they the same guys!!). Crankshaft Specialxxxx?? There were two of them in that area. Take care, K
