Theres no way im keepin that bracket. Mainly because it hides the entire side of the engine. One company makes a mid block mount that sits the alt down way lower. I may do that

    What about this?

    http://www.speedwaymotors.com/1976-86-Small-Block-Chevy-Alternator-Bracket,2413.html

I'm running a similiar bracket to you and I'd like to switch to this. They also make this?

Honestly I like to keep everything low but I can't fit it between my frame rails, but I think if you take everything off the top half of the engine bay it doesn't look like a car any more...LOL I like things looking mechanical.

Manual steering for the win. I have my build set up for it, but it is your ride

N847 i was lookin at that first bracket for a while but id rather mount it lower down. The second bracket is a great solution but id have to move the power steering. I have seen one low mount alt bracket for the pass side but i cant run a mech fuel pump with that. i may just run manual steering. I had it in my 54 ford

I like manual steering. Im currently in the market for a manual R&P from a cavilear for my car. Power is just one more thing to leak or break!

Exactly why i may go manual. I hateeeee dealing with fluids, power steering, brake, coolant etc. and ive had bad experiences with power steering pumps going up in short time. Theres a manual box thats a direct bolt in for my camaro clip. Im strongly leaning in that direction. Plus itll free a wee bit of power up from the mill

Picked up some 2.02 double humps with screw in studs and upgraded springs off craigslist. I was hoping to trade my 4 bolt main block for a set from a friend but it didnt work out. They are fresh with 0 miles since the rebuild

Might want to check the books to see if manual steering was available on an early 70's Camaro. That's the box & linkage you will need.
I'm keeping mine manual for now (orig steering)

The clip is an 81, i surfed around google and apparently a manual 85 - 89 s10 box will bolt right up. So im pretty positive im goin that route. Anyone know if one of the low mount alt brackets from speedway or whatever will clear in a camaro clip ?

I started on the driver side door. Got the inner tacked in, trim holes filled. I still need to fill the mirror holes. Anyone know the easiest way to remove the bolt pocket and re weld it into the new inner ? I used my trusty harbor freight clamps ( probably the only thing they have worth a shit ) to line it up. Check out the butchered speaker holes someone cut.....

Got the inner finish welded for the most part... Gotta fix the botched speaker holes still

  15. Dont forget to weld in your hinge receivers before you close up the door with the front skins. I bought my hinge receivers from classic.....they were all effed-up and needed to be separated in 2 and re-welded together. Make sure you take a good look at those before you weld 'em up. In fact I think I welded mine to the inner patch before I welded the inner patch to the door.....I dont know that it matters, however.

Im kinda pissed, the patch fits like shit. I had to manipulate it for like 45 minutes before i could even weld it. It still fits like hell. The front edge profile is absolutely terrible. The back is seamless tho. The front is gonna need hours more work. Anyways i yanked the power steering. Idk if a low mount alt bracket will work or not. I may have to fab something. Steering is really close.....

The door work is for sure a pain in the ass, but you will get it right! Not much on these old trucks seems to come easy... keep up the good work!

  19. Not telling you how to build your truck because you obviously know what your doing.....but I didn't wait until the door was done to throw it back on the truck to test fit them.....would hate to see you or anybody have to rip things apart....doors are a bitch

agreed. Test fit it.. I had a problem with those lower door patches, they are junk sometimes. I would toss it on there to be safe. I would hate to see you waste money and more time on something stupid like that.

I only have the inner on right now. The back side of the door is perfect, the front edge profile just needs to be reworked to match the door. Its a pain in the ass but nothing to cut the patch off for. Do you guys have any tips to re use the stock hinge receivers or just buy aftermarket ? Looks like a bitch to remove the stockers, but chuck you said you had issues with the aftermarket ?

I have had a lot of problems with them. They just are made like crap by the lowest bidder, you get what you pay for and they are cheap. I found my receivers had stress fractured between the bolt pattern, replaced it with aftermarket, and it was just crap, took it apart and reworked it. I then found out that the upper was just as bad as the lower and didnt feel like messing with it anymore and just got a whole new door because it was so messed up.

Both of my doors are fucked. I could always send the other three patches back and try to find doors. But at this point finding doors that dont need work for cheaper than the patches seems pretty unlikely. And both of my stock receivers look pretty good so i may try to cut them out and use em. Im gonna keep my eyes open for cheap doors tho

Doors are a pain. I have purchased 3 complete sets and after inspecting them they were all trash. I've considered biting the bullet and buying two new reproductions, one at a time - $630 each is a hard pill to swallow.

Yeah i know, taxes just came in so maybeee......... A new set of doors would be sweet. Heres the issue. The door is just sitting there in the pics but i tried to hold it up so you can see whats goin on. The back as you can see is damn close. Few minutes with a dolly and it should work out. The front however as you can see bows out about halfway up the door and the profile itself is just way off. Im thinking multiple pie cuts to fix it but then i have to deal with the damn receiver too. The rest of the patch is lined up perfect just that front edge is screwed...... And this is the easy door. The other is an absolute WRECK. So idk man this is frustrating

My plan is to buy new body parts piece by piece. I wish I didn't have to, but the parts I have will never be good enough, let alone perfect. In both my front fenders the rear braces are rusted out and the front panel is rotted through. Also, the front eyebrow on each is banged to hell and one of them even has rot starting at the top where the outer fender bolts to the inner fender. The layers of rust inside my doors have layers of their own, and getting them aligned to where they sit flush is near impossible due to tweaking and metal fatigue over the years. And my hood wouldn't even make good garage art. Piece by piece I'll buy new parts and eventually have good sheetmetal all the way around.

Classic industries doors are 469 a pop. In carlisle they usually have show sales and it would also save me shipping. If i can get two new doors for under 400 a piece i may do that....... Maybe. If i send the patches back ill get 170 back. these doors are pissin me off lol
